Kevin Pietersen, the former legendary batsman from England, recently spoke to Betway on what it takes to win an Ashes down under and recounting his own experience from being part of the only successful English team (2010) that won a series in Australia since 1987. That was England’s 14th and thus far the final triumph down under to date. The visiting English team led by their prolific batsman, Joe Root, will aim to make it 15 times at the end of the upcoming Ashes series.
Pietersen, who had stressed the importance of starting well in the Ashes, believes that the English batters need to score the bulk of the runs to win the series as they did in 2010. Alastair Cook led that tour while the rest of the batsmen gave the team some important contributions, which paved the way for an English win in Australia that year. The mercurial batsman wants the visiting batsmen to pile on huge runs to reclaim the Ashes.
Speaking about the importance of batsmen scoring runs in bulk, KP said this: “I remember in Adelaide in the 2006/07 series. Where we had scored 550 runs in that first innings and we lost that Test match. Making sure that you keep the momentum down. And you keep people focused for the entire time. That’s the key to winning in Australia, too.”

However, it is easier said than done as Joe Root has been the lone warrior as far the England batting is concerned, and the rest will need to step up big time to reclaim the Ashes. They will also be bolstered by the return of all-rounder Ben Stokes.
Pietersen highlighted that scoring big runs, taking a cluster of wickets, and getting off to a good start in the series will push the Australian team back and keep the Aussie keep quiet. Their home crowd, most often than not, plays the role of 12th man to perfection, and their passion will be even more given they are playing their arch-rivals England.
The Betway insider also touched upon the importance of this series and the history behind it. A lot of emotions go through both of the teams’ dressing rooms as well as among the fans across the countries. The former England skipper mentioned the need for seizing a moment when they are ahead of the Aussies at any point and continue with the momentum throughout the rest of the series.
