There’s so much of cricketing action taking place right now but if you were tuned in to the action in West Indies, you would’ve been treated to a great moment in Test history. Just a few minutes ago, left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj from the touring team wrote his name in the history books, in the 2nd Test, a few minutes before the lunch break on Day 4.
Chasing 324 to win in the 4th innings, Windies were in a good chance to win the game, crossing 100 for the loss of just 2 wickets and a healthy partnership being formed between Kieran Powell and Kyle Mayers. However, the fall of the year started soon later as the typical Calypso Collapse was soon to follow, starting with Mayers giving his wicket to Anrich Nortje.
Now, Maharaj came on to bowl and got two consecutive wickets off the last couple of deliveries of his over. First, he got the other set batsman in Powell who gave away his wicket after registering a fifty and his highest score in the 4th innings of a Test match. The very next ball saw former captain Jason Holder giving a dolly to short leg and the over ended with Maharaj on a hat-trick.

Now because of there being no need to go after every delivery, not many hat-tricks have taken place in Test cricket. However, this hardworking spinner was all set for the hat-trick delivery when he started his next over. Bowling to Joshua da Silva, he threw one down the leg and the fielder at leg slip picked up a fabulous one-handed catch.
What followed was some wild celebrations as Maharaj became the second South Africa to get a test hat-trick, after only Geoff Griffin who did it against England in Lord’s all the way back in 1960. In fact, he’s the first spinner from his country to get a Test hat-trick and it’ll be a moment to rejoice for him!
