Kameng Strikers Wins Arunachal Premier League Season 2

What a thriller we just witnessed in the second edition of the Arunachal Premier League (APL), coming to an end after a rain-reduced contest. Because of rain interruptions, the game was reduced to just a 6-over-a-side final, where Kameng Strikers took on the Siang Sharks, both of them making their first APL final.

In APL 2023, it was Pare Warriors who beat Kamle Cobras and now in APL 2024, it turned out to be a nail-biting contest. Batting first, the Strikers scored 86/5 in their 6 overs thanks to a massive effort from Honey Khari, who scored 41(15) including one over where he hit 5 sixes before getting out.

Giving Khari company was Shekar Sirohi who scored 20(9)* during his short stay at the crease. But his main contribution came with the ball when he was tasked to bowl the penultimate over of the game. Sharks made a fantastic start and needed only 29 runs to get off their last couple of overs.

Sirohi came in to bowl the 5th over of the APL Season 2 final and he gave away only 7 runs including an important wicket of the set batsman, A Sahani who scored 37(14). Sirohi ended with 2/17 in his 2 overs and he left his teammate Nabam Dol 22 runs to play with in the final over.

Young Nabam was nervous and gave away a few boundaries, including a very dangerous over the waist no ball, giving Sharks only 8 runs to get off the final 2 deliveries. After that, a single was taken and Kaushal Singh hit a boundary off the final ball, falling short by 2 runs and ending a very narrow finish in the APL 2024 final.

Kameng Strikers won by 2 runs and Kaushal who they were calling the ‘Pollard’ of this league, was left unbeaten on 41(20)*. He made a mistake by taking a single on the no ball delivery, losing the strike at a crucial stage of the game. The team was delighted as they ran onto the ground, even before the final ball could roll over the fence for a boundary.

Cricket in Arunachal Pradesh hasn’t been very highlighted over the decades and these kind of leagues will do wonders to expose talent from the northeast region of India. We hope to see many more talented players to come out of the Arunachal Premier League over the years, and bigger and better seasons with time to come as well.
