The World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2021 is currently underway under wet (literally) circumstances but for the first time since 1979, a Test went into Day 6. This was kept aside as a reserve day because of rain cutting into a couple of days of the Test and during the Lunch break, we had a special announcement being made to announce the Greatest Test All-Rounder of the 21st Century!
This has been happening right through the Ultimate Test and a couple of days ago, it was Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan who was adjudged as Greatest Test Bowler of the same period. Prior to that, it was Sachin Tendulkar who won the same award for batsmen and now, it was time to announce the greatest all-rounder, voted by the same Star Sports jury that includes former cricketers and sports journalists.

Finishing in fourth place from the list of the final list of nominees was England’s Andrew Flintoff, while India’s Ravi Ashwin finished third. England’s Ben Stokes finished in third place and as announced by Sunil Gavaskar, the winner was none other than South Africa’s Jacques Kallis. He was announced as the best test all-rounder since the turn of the millennium!
As per the announcement made on air, only 2 members of the global jury voted for Stokes, and understandably so. Stokes has had great achievements but he’s still got a long way to go in his career. As for Kallis, he scored 13,200+ runs and picked 292 wickets with the ball, in 166 career Test matches.
