Talk to some cricket experts who’ve been watching the sport since decades and they’ll all tell you that they’ve seen countless pacers be riddled with injuries right through their careers. At some point, many have given up and retired early in life, which is not ideal. And the trend has continued over the years, with fast bowlers around the world being unable to maintain ideal levels of fitness.
It’s sad to see so many with great potential fall by the way because of this and we’re hoping this doesn’t continue in international cricket going forward. We’ve had these injury-prone careers starting line because we’re seeing someone as talented as England’s Jofra Archer enduring a really long break from the game due to an elbow injury.
It was the 2019 World Cup when he made his debut at the highest level and 2 years later, he’s only played 13 Tests, 17 ODIs and 12 T20Is for England, though he’s among their top pacers in the country. He last played a domestic game at home in July before being ruled out for the rest of 2021 at least, because of a stress fracture in his right elbow.
Now, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) released a statement where they mentioned that Archer is likely to be out until next summer as well. Having made a great rise and a brilliant story of how he got to the highest level, it’s sad to see Archer out for so long, missing the second half of IPL 2021, missing the 2021 T20 WC and also the 2021/22 Big Bash League in Australia.

ECB statement on Jofra Archer
“The England and Wales Cricket Board can confirm that fast bowler Jofra Archer underwent a second operation on his injured right elbow on Saturday 11 December in London. The procedure addressed the long-standing stress fracture of his right elbow. A return to cricket will be determined in time, but Jofra will will not be available for any of England’s remaining Winter series,” read a statement on the ECB website today.
He hasn’t played international cricket since March 2021 and will miss England’s tours to the Caribbean in January and March 2022, which means a whole year away from the game. His attempted return to Sussex is what led to his first surgery in May and then, he underwent surgery again in December 2021, and with scans suggesting a recurring injury. He tweeted after being ruled out for a few more months:

His IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals didn’t add him to their IPL 2022 retention list which means he may not even be prepared for the next edition of the cash-rich Indian T20 tournament. And this news comes on the same day that another super-fast pacer Anrich Nortje was ruled out for a series because of a recurring injury.
It’s probably frustrating when you have so much to give and prove and you’ve to receive such injury setbacks, but we’re hoping Archer is back on the field soon; wishing him a speedy recovery. For similar cricketing news from around the world, ensure you stay tuned to ReadScoops.com…
