Jaydev Unadkat Posts Asking For “One More Chance”

He’s the person who has gone for record sums of money at IPL auctions and then performed worse than the cheapest buys in that season. And again the next year, he’ll come into an IPL auction with a bucket-load of wickets in the domestic circuit, only to fail again in the IPL after attracting a heavy bid. Some people make a habit of performing at the highest level and so far, Jaydev Unadkat has not been on of them.

You look at his domestic records and they’re actually good with 327 wickets in 89 FC games including twenty 5-fers and a best innings bowling spell of 7/41. But then you compare it with what he’s done when given a chance in the Indian Premier League and you’ll be disappointed. 85 wickets in 86 career IPL games for one of the most expensive picks at multiple auctions?! Not justified.

Jaydev Unadkat – worthy of the big stage?

In fact, he’s gone at an economy rate of nearly 9 runs per over in his IPL career and he hasn’t even been a super high impact player here of the years. Either way, he’ll know his future in this tournament when he goes under the hammer for the IPL 2022 Auction which is scheduled to take place next month in Bengaluru, and you can read all about that here.

But coming to why we’ve written this article, Unadkat is known for being very vocal about his feelings on social media. When he’s done well and not been picked in the past, he’s made sure everyone knows about it. And on Tuesday 4th Jan 2022, he posted on his social media asking the red ball game to give him ‘One more chance’.

He was very specific about being given a chance in the longest format only, because he knows that’s where he’s excelled over the years. He’s failed in the white ball format in the IPL and even internationally, he got 22 wickets in 17 limited overs games for India. And in the longest format, his sole Test match came against South Africa in December 2010, where he ended wicketless over 26 overs bowled.

And sometimes even the best bowlers in the world don’t get wickets. We’ve seen the Muralitharans and the Warnes go wicketless. Right now also on the 2021 India tour of South Africa, Ravi Ashwin has barely been among the wickets but he continues to remain an integral part of the side. So, has it been injustice towards Unadkat, to just get one Test match? He certainly thinks so.

Over a decade after that chance he was given, the now 30-year old posted asking for one more chance. He sent the tweet to his 160k+ followers with the caption, “Dear red ball, please give me one more chance.. I’ll make you proud, promise!” It was accompanied with an image of him holding the red leather ball in his hand.

He received mixed comments on the post with some people trolling him and the others asking him to never give up his quest of making an international comeback. What do you think? Does he deserve another chance? Leave your opinion in the comments section for us to know more. For similar updates from the world of cricket, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
