What a horrible start to their campaign it was for Pakistan, having lost to India by a massive 124 runs and all hopes seemed gone until they came out and sprung a shock victory over South Africa. Playing their last game against Sri Lanka, they started as favourites but as usual, put themselves in a tough situation.
Having done all the hard work with the ball, Pakistan needed 237 to win and this wasn’t going to be too difficult but this team, unpredictable as always, landed themselves at 162/7 from a good start of 74/0. Sarfraz Ahmed then played a captain’s knock of 61* to ensure Pakistan end up winning and securing a spot in the CT17 semi finals.
The bad part is that they are up against the hosts, tournament favourites and probably the strongest ODI team at the moment – England. England haven’t lost a single game of their campaign so far and they will be looking to keep that unbeaten record intact, after already beating Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia.
There hasn’t been much of a challenge so far for the hosts but this could very well be that challenge. Pakistan have been very unpredictable in the past and this tournament has been no different for them. If the opener swing bowlers Amir and Junaid manage to pick up a few early wickets, the visitors could well be in with a chance.
However, if the likes of Root, Buttler, Stokes, Morgan continue their brilliant ODI form and England go past another 300+ score, you can rule out the chance of a Pakistan victory. All in all, this is going to be an exciting game where England are expected to win, but you never know what can happen in cricket!
