We’re learning something new with every day and every game at the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season. From MS Dhoni’s last over blitz a couple of nights ago to Rishabh Pant’s antics in the final over against Rajasthan, we’ve been seeing it all. And today, we saw a lot of more fun and drama in today’s IPL 2022 game between Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians.
For starters, it was another loss for Mumbai Indians as they ended today with 8 losses in 8 games in IPL 2022. It was their first game at the Wankhede Stadium this season and fans were excited to see them get their first win of the season. They won the toss and put Lucknow in to bat, restricting them to 168/6 int heir 20 overs.
IPL 2022 – Ishan Kishan bizarre dismissal
And when they came out to bat, it was a slow and steady start to the innings for Mumbai. And while captain Rohit Sharma was going well on one end, Ishan Kishan was really suffering and struggling. He began his IPL 2022 season with two successive fifties but the most expensive player at the IPL 2022 Auction was poor today, only managing 8(20) in today’s chase.
It was the first ball of the eighth over where he saw a comedy of errors and one of the worst moments of cricket we’ve seen in a while. It began with leggie Ravi Bishnoi bowling a very wide and short delivery which should’ve been punished and hit out of the ground. It continued to Ishan Kishan reaching out, losing his body shape and only managing an ugly bottom edge on to Quinton de Kock’s left shoe.

When your time is bad, even luck isn’t on your side and the edge bounced off the tip of de Kock’s shoe to balloon up and land into first slip’s hands. It was Jason Holder positioned there and we saw some further poor cricket as Holder almost dropped a dolly of a catch. His fingers-up technique failed and then managed to hold on to it on the second attempt, to see Mumbai losing their first wicket.
From there, Rohit also lost his wicket and there was a procession of wickets to follow as well. At the end, Mumbai was nowhere close to completing this chase and their first game in Wankhede after 3 years ended in a loss, as they fell short of the target by 36 runs. And with this, they slumped to their eighth consecutive loss in the IPL 2022 season.
After beginning the season really well, Kishan has been going through a bit of a tough phase in IPL 2022 and Mumbai will expect more from him going forward, for him to be able to justify his price tag. And now that Mumbai is virtually out of the tournament, he will be able to play with a little bit more freedom, so we’re expecting more runs from his blade now!
