It’s been raining cats and dogs in Ahmedabad today ahead of the IPL 2023 final between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans. And everyone’s gone into a frenzy on social media because it’s a much awaited final. Cricket fans were asking questions about the reserve day and earlier reports suggested that there was NO reserve day.
This meant that GT would go ahead to win the IPL 2023 final in the case of no action in the final, because they finished on top of the IPL 2023 points table. However, the air has been cleared now as it has been announced that there is in fact a RESERVE DAY for the IPL 2023 final. And it seems like this is the official announcement, which means fans are a bit relieved now…
IPL 2023 final has a reserve day
Initially, all the sports platforms had mentioned that there was no reserve day and that there were wrong reports because of adhering to the IPL 2022 guidelines in the case of interruption of play. In such a case, the teams would have to play a super over and even if that wasn’t possible, GT would be crowned champions. However, it was very recently announced that there is a reserve day.
And by the way things are going right now in Ahmedabad with a heavy thunderstorm and rain taking place, we think that the reserve day may very well be required tomorrow, 29th May 2023. Both teams have played brilliantly to finish in the top two spots in the IPL 2023 season and the least they deserve is to play the final and decide a winner the right way.

The final was scheduled to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium and tonight’s cut off before the overs start getting reduced is 9:35pm. Further, 12:06am is the cutoff for play to happen (minimum of a super over). But everyone’s hoping that there won’t be the need for the reserve day, as rain stopped just before 8pm, but only for the drizzle to begin again soon later. See the announcement tweet here:

In the meantime, the stadium decided to show up a graphic of Chennai Super Kings being the runner-up. We’re sure this was a massive error from the production side, which they may have been keeping ready in the case of a washed out game. A lot of confusion is taking place in the IPL 2023 final even before the game can begin. See the error here:
