In fourteen seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the team we’re about to cover today is yet to win even one title and each year, the question is repeated. Will it be their year?! And we have to be honest that they had a pretty decent IPL 2022 Auction but they’ve always been aggressive at auctions but haven’t been able to deliver when it comes to games and especially playoffs games.
We’re talking about none other than the Royal Challengers Bangalore who will go into IPL 2022 with the burden of not yet being able to win an IPL trophy. This year, they’ve revamped their squad and bought back only a few of their players in the auction. They also will be with a new captain in this season after Virat Kohli decided to step down as captain at the end of the IPL 2021 season.

Prior to the auction, they decided to retain only three players and one of them was former captain and the highest run scorer in IPL history, Virat Kohli. He’s got a good lead at the top and we expect him to score runs freely with the burden of captaincy gone. The other two to be retained were pacer Mohammed Siraj and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, the latter having a career-best season in IPL 2021.
Maxi had a fabulous BBL 11 season as well where he went on to score his maiden BBL century recently. Fans say that he should be considered as captain but that would be a disastrous choice in our opinion, as a fearless Maxi is the best Maxi. Talking about options for the RCB captain, we think Faf du Plessis tops the list as he’s been in brilliant form and has captained South Africa for quite a few years as well.

And since they don’t want an over-dependability on the likes of Kohli and Maxwell, they added yet another super reliable and experienced batter to the squad in Dinesh Karthik, who is likely to keep wickets for RCB. Among their biggest signings was Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga who has played almost every T20 franchise league in recent months and confidence wise, he’s at an all-time high.
Talking about all-rime highs, another one of their most expensive players is Harshal Patel who ended as the Purple Cap winner in IPL 2021 for the most wickets in the tournament, post which he even went on to make his Team India debut, so we’re expecting the wickets to continue from him. Siddarth Kaul has played with Kohli during his U-19 days and he’ll blossom in this RCB squad for IPL 2022 as well.
