The IPL 2022 season was a historic one for many reasons, primarily the fact that it was the first time that 10 franchise teams played in a single edition of the tournament. Today was the IPL 2022 final with Gujarat Titans vs Rajasthan Royals entertaining millions across the country and other parts of the world as well.
And while it was a super successful tournament, there were a few players who entertained the world with their personal achievements. One in particular was England’s Jos Buttler who was one of the few retained players by the Rajasthan Royals management ahead of the IPL 2022 Auction a few months ago. Here, he’s repaid the faith, and how!
Jos Buttler wins IPL 2022 Orange Cap
Right from the start of the tournament, he’s been bringing his A-game for the Royals, which included a record 4 centuries in the season. He became only the second person in the history of the tournament to score 4 tons in a single season, after Virat Kohli did so in IPL 2016. This also included two fifties in the IPL 2022 Playoffs, and top scoring for his team with 39 in the IPL 2022 final today too!
He had cemented his spot at the top of the Orange Cap list a few games ago itself, and it’s now finalised as well. Buttler smashed 863 runs in 17 games this season, ending a beautiful run in the IPL 2022 tournament. It’s only the third time that a batter has crossed 800 runs in a single IPL season, after Kohli and David Warner both did so in IPL 2016.

He overtook Warner’s tally for that season and ending behind only King Kohli for the most runs in a single season (973 runs in 16 games). His stats include 4 fifties and 4 centuries, 83 fours, 45 sixes, and average of 57+, and a strike rate of nearly 150 as well. It’s been a season to remember for Jos The Boss, and we’ve thoroughly loved every bit of it.

His 39(35) in the final today wasn’t his best knock of the tournament but once again, he top scored for the team that ended with a below par total of 130/9 in their 20 overs. Regardless of the result of the game and which team wins though, it’s been one hell of a season for Jos Buttler who is easily among the most sought-after T20 cricketers in the world right now.
Finishing second on the Orange Cap in IPL 2022 was Lucknow Super Giants’ captain KL Rahul who amassed 616 runs and continues to be one of the most consistent players in this tournament over the years. With the ball and the Purple Cap race, it was two leg-spinners Wanindu Hasaranga and Yuzvendra Chahal who were tied at 26 wickets each prior to the IPL 2022 final. .
