The frustration continues! What began in late 2019 continues to haunt us as the Covid-19 virus seems to not be going anywhere. For the last couple of years, several major outdoor sporting events were cancelled/postponed and the Indian Premier League (IPL) has not been immune to this either. IPL 2020 was hosted in UAE and IPL 2021 was discontinued halfway too, only to resume in UAE again.
Now just as we thought we’re 7-8 games into IPL 2022 and there’s no more coronavirus in the air, we’ve been brought back down to reality as we’re hearing of breaking news of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) calling off the ongoing event which is taking place only in Maharashtra, because of an outbreak of Covid-19 positive cases in multiple camps.
IPL 2022 called off due to Covid-19
It’s the most dreaded headline but that’s what it’s come to. This comes one night after Chennai Super Kings for the first time in the history of the tournament (15 seasons) lost two consecutive games to begin a season. It’s being said that players are revolting against the new captain Ravindra Jadeja who failed to defend 34 runs in the final 2 overs against a newbie team in Lucknow Super Giants.
It’s also further being speculated that players were deliberately out partying the night before, and have thus contracted the virus. By doing so, they’ll reduce the chances of any further embarrassment on the field. Of course, Robin Uthappa was not part of this plan because he’s finally got a chance to prove himself at the top of the order and even scored a fifty in last night’s game!

In another camp, it is believed that tensions are rising within Mumbai Indians as well. As history speaks, they’ve won the title every alternate year and this should thus be a victorious year for them too, having last won the title in IPL 2020. However, the squad is in shambles, after they spent almost half their budget on only Ishan Kishan at the IPL 2022 Auction.
While there’s no real outburst of Covid-19 here, this squad is going on to protest because they’ve realised that their chances of winning IPL 2022 are very poor. Additionally, they played their opening game at Brabourne Stadium (which hasn’t been used for professional cricket in years), which has upset some senior members of the team, believing it’s a demotion to play at such an outdated venue.
DISCLAIMER: We’d like to let you know that today is in fact the 1st of April 2022 and as it is a tradition at Read Scoops, we tend to have a laugh and joke every year with such a satirical piece, which has nearly none or absolutely zero truth in it. The IPL 2022 season is on in full swing and we don’t want to jinx it, but we want to wish you all a very happy April’s Fools Day!
Having begun on 26th March 2022, the tournament is on in full swing and we’ve actually seen a lot of good and close games so far. Yes, the entire season is being played in Maharashtra but there’s been absolutely no Covid-19 threat as yet (touchwood). We’d request you guys to take this article with a pinch of salt and enjoy the rest of the IPL 2022 tournament!
