Once again, the average age of the CSK squad is well past 30 years, but we have no reason to criticize that after they lifted the title last year. With the likes of Suresh Raina (highest run scorer in IPL history), MS Dhoni (had his highest scoring IPL in 2018), Ambati Rayudu and Kedar Jadhav (both stables in the Indian team), the Indian batting looks very strong in addition to rotating between overseas players like Sam Billings, Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo and Shane Watson.
Watson and Bravo are expected to be a regular part of the team, because of the fact that they provide options with the bat and ball, both. CSK is going to have happy headaches in selecting between Sam Billings and Faf du Plessis though. Billings showed his wide range of T20 shots with his innings of 87 against Windies earlier this month, while du Plessis has been in fine form himself, with 6 fifties and a century in the last 2 months, against Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
The bowling was a slight bit off last season, with a lot of reliability on the 5th/6th bowlers like Jadhav, Watson and Raina. However, they have ensured they have an extra full-time bowling option in Mohit Sharma this year, who returns to his former team CSK after a stint at Kings XI Punjab. This was the only weak link, but if they decide to play 5 genuine bowlers, CSK will look unbeatable.
