Easily the biggest sporting event in India, the Indian Premier League (IPL) began way back in 2008 and in less than two decades, it’s grown to become less of a tournament but more of a culture in the country. The tournament offers the most entertainment and the biggest salaries to players from around the world, as compared to other similar franchise cricket leagues across the globe.
And wherever there is a long history, there’s bound to also be a lot of records and milestones being secured. Some of these could include the highest run scorers in the IPL or the highest IPL wicket takers. But today, we’re going to talk about the teams who have done well over the years, and list down all the IPL winners from inception in IPL 2008 till date…
As of now, it’s safe to say that two teams have heavily dominated the tournament and those are Mumbai Indians (5 titles) and Chennai Super Kings (4 titles). And the dominance is so evident that five of the last six titles between IPL 2017 to IPL 2022 were won by either of these two teams. We’re going to discuss further some other IPL winning team numbers, with all these stats updated as of 29th April 2023.
