It was a historic day today, regardless of what the result would be for the teams in action. The first ever ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup began earlier this month and today was the grand finale. The action in Potchefstroom was England U19 vs India U19 and these two were undoubtedly the best teams in the tournament, through the group stages and the super sixes as well.
Eventually, it all boiled down to this one day and India U19 began brilliantly with the ball, rocking England U19 with wickets at regular intervals. And just when you thought England would be on their way to recovery, India pegged them back with more wickets, till they were bowled out for 68 in just 17.1 overs. Twitter had a field day with reactions on this final of the first U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.

India used six bowlers on the day and each of them picked up at least one wicket each, with Titas Sadhu, Archana Devi, and Parshavi Chopra picking up 2 wickets each with the new ball. In particular, Sadhu ended with brilliant figures, picking up 2/6 in 4 overs, bowling with an unimaginable economy rate of 1.5 runs per over in her spell today.
Titas Sadhu is DELIGHTFUL to watch! Good lord. Fast bowler from Bengal screwing opponents.
Ah. A Jhulan-shaped hole in the heart is feeling slightly better! <3 #U19T20WorldCup

Most wickets for India in women's U19 World Cup:
11 – Parshvi Chopra
9 – Mannat Kashyap
8 – Archana Devi
6 – Titas Sadhu
5 – Sonam Yadav— Kausthub Gudipati (@kaustats) January 29, 2023
She didn’t have the most amazing tournament but in the final, she swung the ball both ways and picked up important wickets upfront. Parshavi Chopra added to her tally for the tournament and ended as India’s top wicket-taker in the tournament, finishing only behind the 15-year old Maggie Clark from Australia who bagged 12 wickets in the competition.

The best part about this performance is that they did everything the right way, and it was a balanced performance by these young girls. India’s women’s cricket foundation has been laid well, with good bowling, fielding, as well as batting right through the tournament. And they finally got there, ending a long wait in the women’s circuit for a World Cup title. See some more reactions from Twitter users:

Top knock from Trisha Gongadi, a 29-ball 24 after a nervy start with both openers gone. Would have loved to finish it, but an excellent effort!#U19T20WorldCup #INDvENG

Its a great start for this young side and the sky’s the limit for them going ahead. We’re sure to hear a lot more about these players in the months and years to come, and we hope they can keep up the winning ways as well. Gongadi Trisha and Soumya Tiwari ended as the top scorers of the game, both scoring 24 each in the final. Congratulations India!
