It wasn’t the best of days for Indian batsmen when they took the field in the 1st T20I against Australia at Vizag. However, the team showed some brilliant character, being able to drag the game all the way to the last ball, even though they had a miserly score of 126/7 on the board. Both teams were good on the day, but Australia was better, which helped them take a 1-0 lead.
Now, action moves to the very famous Chinnaswamy Stadium and the pitch is somewhat different here, but a number of the Aussie players have played years of IPL cricket, so they won’t be unfamiliar with conditions. It’s a 2-match series so India will look to hit back hard, as the last thing they will want is another T20 series loss, after having lost their last one to New Zealand. Keep reading for our fantasy preview of the 2nd T20I….

India
Home to the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, the likes of Chahal, Umesh Yadav, Kohli and KL Rahul have played tons of matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, does Yadav get a spot after his 14-run last over which lost India the game? There are talks of him being replaced in the eleven by Siddarth Kaul, but I won’t take the chance with either. My picks continue to be Yuzvendra Chahal and Jasprit Bumrah. Talented and experienced, both.
With the bat, there’s talk of Shikhar Dhawan getting a place back in the team, but probably at the expense of Rohit Sharma, since the management wants to give the younger rotational players a chance. However, with the series on the line, can they afford this change? With all the criticism behind MS Dhoni’s batting in the last game, he’s still my wicket-keeper pick since Australia have decided Peter Handscomb is a better option than their main wicket-keeper, Alex Carey. Dream11 lists Dhoni and Carey as the only keepers.
Australia
In the fantasy preview of the 1st T20I, I recommended picking Marcus Stoinis and even after his failure in the last game, he continues to stay on. As my CAPTAIN. He had a fantastic BBL and can’t be dropped based on one bad outing with the bat. After Glenn Maxwell’s blitz in the last game, a huge majority will have him in their teams. Due to India’s lack of all-rounders and no Hardik Pandya in the team, I’d continue to pick Maxwell but as a normal player.
While Handscomb is the man given priority, he doesn’t make the cut for me. I’m going to stick with D’Arcy Short as my batting option, expecting another failure for Aaron Finch. Kane Richardson, Nathan Lyon, Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh are the players waiting on the bench but I believe they will be looking to play an unchanged winning team, especially since the bowlers were brilliant. There’s a 2% chance Marsh or Khawaja could get a game but Short had a decent outing so that looks unlikely as well
