Everyone knew that this was going to be a series that would end in India’s favour but this turned out to be an absolutely one sided affair, getting worse and worse for Sri Lanka as the series went on. India ultimately whitewashed the hosts in the test series, 3-0.
The 3rd test was set up by centuries from Shikhar Dhawan (his second in the series) and Hardik Pandya (maiden ton) as India scored 487 in their 1st innings. Interestingly, this was India’s lowest 1st innings score in this series but this turned out to be their biggest win from the three games.

Skipper Dinesh Chandimal top scored with 48 as the hosts were bundled out for 135 in 37.4 overs and Virat Kohli enforced the follow on. The 2nd innings was not much better for Sri Lanka, who were bowled out for 1, allowing India a massive win of an innings and 171 runs.
This series has been a complete team performance from India – KL Rahul now has 7 consecutive scores of 50+ in test cricket, Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara recorded 2 centuries each, while Kohli, Rahane and Pandya registered a century each.
Ashwin, Jadeja and Shami also ended as the top three wicket takers of the series and there are only positive points India can take out from this series. Since this test was wrapped up on the third day, the teams will have an extra couple of days off before they continue to play 5 ODIs and a single T20.
Can we expect some major changes the next time Sri Lanka play a test series?

Will Sri Lanka put up a better fight in the limited overs segment? The most heartbreaking news came when India’s squad was announced and Yuvraj Singh failed to make the cut. However, Manish Pandey has earned a well-deserved spot in that team.
Man of the Match – Hardik Pandya
Man of the Series – Shikhar Dhawan
