With the coronavirus pandemic creating a ruckus around the world, cricket has not been able to function as usual either. Some tours tried closed-door matches while some tried postponing tours, but eventually, all games have come to a complete standstill – both domestic as well as international cricket.
The future of some major tournaments like the Indian Premier League (IPL) have been left in the hanging, while the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup seems unsure of happening now as well. In such a time, it was important that the International Cricket Council (ICC) got together to create a concrete plan for what lies ahead in the next few months.
The ICC will host a Chief Executives’ Committee (CEC) meeting on Thursday, 23rd April to discuss the impact that COVID-19 has ad on the sport and how to go about the rest of the year’s planning. The CEOs of the 12 ICC-full member nations as well as the three associate representatives will connect over video conference on Thursday.
The meeting will discuss key mitigation factors and how international cricket can resume soon, based on government advice in each region. Another key part of the meeting is the rescheduling of postponed tours and a collective review of the FTP until 2023. The future of the World Test Championship will also be discussed along with the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League and the T20 World Cup in Australia.

While it’s not on the official agenda for the meeting, we’re expecting BCCI to discuss about getting a window for the postponement of the IPL via a cancellation or postponement of the T20 World Cup or the Asia Cup. While BCCI will be pulling its weight in the meeting, lost revenues for all nations will also be taken into account.
