Ireland Tri Series 2019 – IRE vs WI Fantasy Preview

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is ongoing at the moment and West Indies didn’t bother to call back their star players as they begin an ODI tri-series against Ireland and Bangladesh in Ireland. Surprisingly, only 8 players from the Windies squad are actually a part of the World Cup squad, while Bangladesh have their WC squad here, looking to figure out their best combinations ahead of the mega world tournament.

This tri-series begins with Ireland taking on West Indies in game one and it comes a couple of days after the home team gave England a massive scare, with the latter winning narrowly by 4 wickets eventually. Keep reading for our complete PlayerzPot (Use Code “READ1234”) fantasy preview of this game between Ireland and West Indies at Castle Avenue…

Stats

  • Kevin O’Brien has 16 wickets and 350 runs at this ground (16 games).
  • Gary Wilson has 432 runs in 15 games here.
  • West Indies have played 4 ODIs here; never lost.
  • 30, 23, DNB, 15, 1 – John Campbell’s first 5 ODI scores.
  • Head to head, West Indies lead Ireland, 5-1.

Ireland

Gary Wilson is the highest run scorer at this ground and I’ll pick him over Shai Hope even though he bats lower down the order. Seam friendly conditions here mean Windies could also lose a few early wickets. Coming to the pacers, young Joshua Little wreaked havoc with England, picking up 4/45 while Tim Murtagh was pretty good with his 1/29 in 9 overs. Pick them both.

Another player you could consider is George Dockrell who went wicketless but only gave away 27 in his 9 overs, but he has been batting higher up the order now, scoring 24 against England. Captain William Porterfield managed a top score of 21 in 7 innings against Afghanistan recently and scored 17 against England. Considering his poor run of form, skip him and pick Paul Stirling instead.

West Indies

It’s going to be trying conditions for Windies here considering the last time they played an ODI here was in 2007 and considering they’ve sent a second-string side to compete. The likes of Sunil Ambris, Shane Dowrich and Roston Chase will be looking to perform just to keep their 2% chances of being in the World Cup alive, in case last minute injuries. Expect Chase to have a big role in this game, while Dowrich may be left out as Shai Hope will take over wicket-keeping duties.

John Campbell hasn’t had the best start to his career and I don’t think it could get any better here. I’m expecting the good old Caribbean collapse and I’ll fill my team with middle order and lower-middle order batsmen. When there’s a collapse, count on Jason Holder to bail the Windies out. Also, if you are confused between Sheldon Cottrell and Shannon Gabriel, why not choose both? Remember, seaming conditions.
