It was so easy to criticize Team India after their recent 2-0 series loss against Australia in the T20s. However, as true Indian cricket fans, we’re happy because India currently leads 2-0 in the ODI series and that’s what matters more at the moment, because this is the format in which the upcoming 2019 ICC World Cup will be played.
However, in no way has India dominated Australia in these two games so far. They have been fiercely contested games, swinging both ways every now and then. Eventually, India held their nerves better on both occasions, especially in the 2nd ODI where they pulled off a last over victory. Keep reading for our fantasy preview of the 3rd ODI which is being played at Ranchi…

- 295/8 is the highest total here – Australia, while 288/7 is the highest successful chase – India.

- Glenn Maxwell scored 92 in his only other ODI here.
- Mohammad Shami has 4 wickets in 2 ODIs here.
India
Look at the Indian captain’s record here – outstanding, like it is at almost every other ground in the world. Virat Kohli has been dismissed just once in ODIs at this ground and after his swashbuckling 116 in the 2nd ODI, it’s only natural for every to want to have him in their fantasy teams, if they didn’t already! However, here’s your chance to make the big buck. Save those extra credits for other players and drop Kohli for the final 3 ODIs. He may perform in 2, but the one he doesn’t, it’s your lucky day..
India have brought back Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the final three ODIs and he comes straight into the team for Shami or Bumrah, so you should leave the other two out of your teams. Bhuvneshwar hasn’t been among the wickets, so I’d leave him out too, picking one spinner and the part-time options of Kedar Jadhav and Vijay Shankar to do the rest of my wicket-taking.
Australia
As for the team from Down Under, they will be looking for a victory in the 3rd ODI just to stay alive in the series. The Ranchi pitch is expected to be slower and to provide more assistance to spin, which means the Aussies will retain Nathan Lyon and Adam Zampa. I’d leave Alex Carey out for MS Dhoni as it is the latter’s home ground and the former bats wayyyy too low down the order for my liking. The only probable change is maybe bringing in Jhye Richardson or Jason Behrendorff for Coulter-Nile.
Aaron Finch ended his dry spell and got a few runs in the last game, but I’m going to continue to keep him out of my fantasy team, while picking the likes of Usman Khawaja, Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell and Stoinis are invaluable with bat, ball as well as in the field. However, do remember that Stoinis has scored 7 ODI fifties thus far, but Australia have ended up losing all those games. #KeyToSuccess.
