After suffering a 2-0 loss in the T20I series, our Men in Blue came back strong in the 1st ODI against Australia, completing a victory in a fantastic all-round performance. Very rarely do you lose games where you’ve batted, bowled and fielded well. Now remember, these two teams are the last two World Cups winners, so you can expect nothing but brilliant cricket from them in the next week or so.
The 2nd ODI will see the teams shift to Nagpur, to a ground which has only seen two ODIs in the last 6 years, both between India and Australia. And both being won by Team India. While we have seen huge totals at this ground even 10 years ago, we can’t say for sure how the pitch will play out. Regardless, keep reading for our fantasy preview of the 2nd ODI…

India
Have a look at MS Dhoni’s recent form in ODIs. Four consecutive fifties against Australia in ODIs to go with 301 runs at an average of 150.50 in 2019. A Player of the Series performance in Australia was no fluke as he has been very reliable in getting India out of tight spots. With his lightning reflexes behind the stumps and the fact that he averages 134 at this ground in ODIs, I don’t see why you would look at anyone else as your fantasy team’s wicket-keeper.
India’s middle order worries seem to be vanished now with Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav in good form, while Kohli is rock-solid as always and Ambati Rayudu seems to have found rhythm in international cricket too. India may stick to maintaining an unchanged team after the win in the 1st ODI, and I’d suggest you pick Jadhav as he has a knack of picking up wickets as well. Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav are a must with the ball.
Australia
The away team too will be looking at a similar team as the 1st ODI, but the only change would be including Shaun Marsh, who missed the last game with an injury. Ideally, he would slot in for Usman Khawaja but the latter’s fifty in the last game means Ashton Turner may most likely make way. At the top, I’d skip Aaron Finch because he has been in horrid form of late.
Talking about form, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis have been going through brilliant respectively phases, and Maxwell’s 40 in the last game showed that he isn’t restricting his performances to T20 cricket only. I could pick both these players as captain/vice-captain even though I’m going in with an India-heavy fantasy team. With the ball, pick Adam Zampa, who has dismissed Kohli 4 times in his career so far.
