Women’s cricket is growing in prominence and significance in recent times. South Africa’s tour of India is being replicated by the women’s tour. Similarly, the Australia domestic season kicks off alongside the women’s season as well. In the Women’s National Cricket League, we have Match 1 between Queensland Women and Western Australia Women happening at Brisbane.
7 teams will be contesting this tournament and the final 2 will play off in the final after the round robin stage. Both these teams have announced their squads and both will be looking for an early victory in the domestic season of 2019/20. Numbers
- Last 5 games head to head, Queensland Women lead 4-1.
- Georgia Redmayne last 2 scores for Tasmania W – 43, 77.
- Grace Harris – 16 wickets in 16 games at the WBBL 2019.
- Sophie Devine – 80 wickets and 1,955 runs in T20Is.
Queensland Women
The Queensland side will be led by Kirby Short, who has also played for the Brisbane Heat franchise. She has no 50+ scores in her last 10 innings and more, so I’ll skip her today. Three of their biggest stars are Delissa Kimmince, Beth Mooney, Jess Jonassen and these three are all NOT AVAILABLE for this fixture, so don’t pick them for today’s 50-over contest against WA Women.
Instead, you can pick Georgia Redmayne with the bat who is coming off 2 fifties in her last 5 games for Tasmania W and Hurricanes W. With the ball, there’s a good option in Grace Harris who was among the wickets for Brisbane Heat at the 2019 WBBL, including wickets in all of her 4 last games there. 23-year old Haidee Birkett will also have her moment to shine, named in the 12-woman squad.
Western Australia Women
The team announced their 14-woman squad led by Chloe Piparo and this player has has had a lack of participation and contributions in recent games, so I’ll skip her. Aussie opener Nicole Bolton will NOT be a part of the squad for the first game while you can get a good batting option in White Ferns player Sophie Devine. The player has plenty of international experience and has a few T20I fifties this year too, along with plenty of wickets.
With the ball, Kathleen Hempenstall has had a few 3-fers in her last 3-4 professional games and she’s worth adding to my MyFab11(sign-up with code “READAD46“) fantasy team. Apart from her, Emma King has been playing more regularly and has also been among the wickets. Watch out for 21-year old Amy Edgar who scored 67 for WA Women against Tasmania Women earlier this year.
