While Team India is hosting Bangladesh at home, India Women travelled to Windies where they will be playing 3 ODIs and 5 T20s. The tour began with the ODI series and India was given a pleasant jolt as they lost the opening game by 1 run, only to hit back hard and win the next two games and the ODI series, 2-1. Then, they shifted to the T20 series and won the opening game by a massive 84 runs.
The 2nd T20I will be played at the same ground in St. Lucia and India will look to keep up their 3-game winning streak. However, much like the men’s team, West Indies Women are very unpredictable and they are never to be taken lightly, across formats. Numbers
- Last 5 T20Is head to head, Windies Women lead 4-1.
- Windies Women haven’t won ANY of their last 7 T20Is.
- Stafanie Taylor – 193 runs in 3 games in the ODI series.
- Anisa Mohammed – wicketless in 8 of her last 10 games for WI Women.
Windies Women
While the Indians are doing well, Stafanie Taylor has been the standout individual performer who had 2 fifties and a lowest score of 20 in the 3 ODIs. However, she has been ruled out here with injury and bowler Anisa Mohammed will lead the side. I’ll pick Mohammed as she has 220+ international games for WI and has experience, even though there haven’t been many wickets in recent games for her.
The most talented player in this Windies team has to be Hayley Matthews who went wicketless and scored only 13 runs in the 1st T20. However, she bagged 3 wickets in the only ODI she played and she will be my captain for this 2nd T20. Afy Fletcher also went wicketless but had 3 wickets in 2 ODIs and has been one of their most successful bowlers in recent months for WI Women.
India Women
Shafali Varma recently debuted in the T20 format against SA Women and the 15-year old bagged a duck on debut. However, on her 5th T20I, she smashed 73 and got the player of the match award after stitching together a record opening partnership with Smriti Mandhana who also scored 67 in that 1st T20, helping IND Women put on 185/4 in 20 overs. Pick both of them again.
Harmanpreet Kaur scored only 51 runs in the ODI series but she got 21(13)* in the 1st T20 and I’ll pick her in my Dotball (Sign-up and get Rs.51 FREE) fantasy team too, because she is best suited for this T20 format. With the ball, Deepti Sharma is a worthy pick in your team as she has 5 wickets and 28 runs in 3 ODIs and backed it up with 1/15 in the 1st T20 as well.
