Afghanistan has used India as their adopted home for home tours and they recently began a series against West Indies, with the 3-match ODI series in Lucknow. Windies bowled out the hosts for less than 200 and from there, they cruised to an easy 7-wicket win but there were quite a few mess-ups which could’ve been avoided by Afghanistan, like fielding and catching for sure.
All 7 games of this series will be played at the same ground, so we can expect the similar slow and low pitch where even 230-240 can be good score. The spinner were getting some purchase every now and then, so I’ll have plenty of them in my fantasy team. Numbers
- Head to head in last 5 ODIs, these teams are tied 2-2.
- Rashid Khan – only 4 wickets in his last 10 professional games.
- Shimron Hetmyer – 8 single-digit scores in last 10 matches.
- Afghanistan has lost ALL of their last 10 ODIs.
West Indies
Apart from 48 and 44 in two games at CPL 2019, everything has been in single digits for Shimron Hetmyer in the recent past, with 3, 0, 9, 3, 9, 0 being his last 6 scores. I’ll skip him and instead pick Evin Lewis at the top, who failed in the last game but is never short of a big score. Another player who you just can’t miss out on is Roston Chase who bagged 2 wickets and scored 94. Pick him as your captain if playing a one-on-one fantasy league.
It’s going to be a tough decision to select a wicket-keeper as Shai Hope scored a brilliant 77* in the 1st ODI and Nicholas Pooran is one of my favourites batters in this line-up. Pooran recently scored a brilliant century against SL in the CWC 2019. With the ball, spinners are a must so I’ll select Hayden Walsh Jr in my fantasy team after his 1/33 on ODI debut for WI. Jason Holder is also a good pick as he can bat if required.
Afghanistan
The most popular fantasy player here will be Rashid Khan and I’ll NOT pick him in my Rotobash (sign-up to get Rs.100 FREE) fantasy team as he’s gone wicketless in his last 5 games and also bagged a duck in the last game. Instead, I’ll pick former captains Gulbadin Naib and Asghar Afghan. Naib was one of their best performers with bat and ball in CWC 2019 while Afghan brings in all the experience.
He was dismissed at the wrong time in the last game when running out of partners. Another good option with the bat is opener Javed Ahmadi who failed with 5(13) in the last game, but he has been scoring some big knocks in domestic cricket. He also bowls and got some massive turn in the last game. With ball in hand, Mujeeb Rahman is a good pick while all-rounder Mohammad Nabi can’t be left out anyway.
