With teams finding it inconvenient to travel to Afghanistan to play cricket, the team has been playing their home games in India over the last year or so. Now, they will be playing familiar foes West Indies for a long series of 3 ODIs, 3 T20Is and also a single test. Remember, Afghanistan has enjoyed plenty of success against Windies in limited overs contests, and this isn’t going to be a one-sided encounter.
All 7 games across this tour will be played at the same ground in Lucknow, with the Afghanis having grown familiar to conditions here, having played Bangladesh and Ireland here in the past. Windies has also sent a few new faces, so there are chances for Afghanistan to win once again. Numbers
- Head to head in last 5 ODIs, these two are tied 2-2.
- In the only T20I here at this ground, India beat WI by 71 runs.
- Hayden Walsh Jr – 22 wickets in 9 games at CPL 2019.
- Brandon King – 496 runs in 12 games in CPL 2019.
- Rashid Khan – 2 wickets in 7 games in the Shpageeza League.
West Indies
First name on the team sheet for me has to be Hayden Walsh Jr who let go of a USA contract to play the CPL and he ended as the top wicket-taker even though he played only 9 games. With Indian pitches providing more assistance to spin, we can expect him to do well on his ODI debut for Windies. He hasn’t gone wicketless in any of his last 10 games. Brandon King was the top run-scorer in the recent CPL 2019 but he bagged a duck in the warm-up game and Roston Chase may be picked over him.
The side will be captained by Kieron Pollard, someone who is back to his older days and he had a brilliant CPL 2019 with bat and ball. Another player with brilliant all-round abilities is former captain Jason Holder who scored 31 in the warm-up game even so low down the order. Your wicket-keeper pick could be Nicholas Pooran as he has bucketloads of talent within him and his century against SL in the World Cup was an indicator of that.
Afghanistan
Afghanistan also has a new captain in Rashid Khan and you should pick him in your Rotobash (sign-up to get Rs.100 FREE) fantasy team even though he hasn’t picked too many wickets in recent times. He’s an intelligent cricketer who also batted as an opener in the recent 2019 Shpageeza League. Pick former-captain Gulbadin Naib who picked 2 wickets in the warm-up and scored 91 in one of the T20s in the Shpageeza tournament.
With 2 fifties and a century and a best of 117* in the recent Shpageeza League, Javed Ahmadi has forced his way back into the Afghanistan national side and he’ll be a good asset to the side while also bowling every once in a while. Talking about all-rounders, there’s no chance of leaving the experienced Mohammad Nabi out of your fantasy side either. Former player Karim Janat may also find his way back into the side.
