Amidst all the cricketing action taking place across the globe, we have another major cricketing tournament coming up, this time the 2019 U-19 Asia Cup which is being hosted in Sri Lanka. India U-19 is the favourite and they are also the defending champions and the most successful team in this tournament, winning the title 7 times out of the 8 occasions it has been hosted since inception in 1989.
In Match 1, the defending champions play Kuwait U-19 and this could very well end up being a completely one-sided contest as many of our youngsters have already got plenty of exposure in other leagues. The Indian Colts will be led by Dhruv Jurel who will also be behind the stumps. Good with the bat too, I’ll be picking him as my wicket-keeper today, scoring 2 fifties in 5 Youth ODIs in England recently. Another player who comes into this tournament in rich form is Arjun Azad who recently smashed 151 in an U-19 game where he also smashed Arjun Tendulkar around the park.
India has a 16-year old Pankaj Yadav in the team who was picked for the 2018 U-19 World Cup because he ended as the top wicket-taker in the Challenger Trophy prior to that. However, he have two more experienced bowlers. One could be Purnank Tyagi while the other could be Vidyadhar Patil. Patil is coming off a stint at the KPL 2019 where he picked 5 wickets in just 3 games for Hubli Tigers, including 3/18 in his last game against Bijapur Bulls.
Kuwait U-19
Here’s where picking fantasy players becomes slightly tough as we don’t know many of these players. The team will be led by Abdul Sadiq and it’s safe to say that he’s their best player, with 2 4-fer in his last 4 games for the side, including consistent scores in his last 10 games with a best of 39*. If nothing, we at least know he will be a part of the playing eleven.
Even though he has no 50+ scores in his last 10 games for Kuwait U-19, I’ll have to add Gokul Kumar to my Fantain (Use Code “READ123”) fantasy team as he’s one of their best batsmen. On the bright side, he has two scores of 30+ in his last 4 games. Jandu Hamoud is another worthy pick as he has managed 17 wickets in his last 10 games.
