If you missed the 3rd Test of the 2019 Ashes tests series, stop where you are. Go back and watch the highlights. It was one of the greatest tests ever played and we expect things to be no different as we move into the all-important 4th Test between England and Australia at Old Trafford. The team winning here takes an unassailable lead and an Aussie win would mean regaining the Ashes itself.
England recovery and Ben Stokes’ legendary knock meant the hosts are still in the contest, currently 1-1 after 3 tests. Both teams will have changes considering injuries and workload management. England’s overworked pacer Chris Woakes also gets a break. Keep reading for our complete FanFight (Sign-up and get Rs.30 FREE) fantasy preview of the ENG vs AUS 4th Ashes Test…

Stats
- Steve Smith – 378 runs in 3 innings in Ashes 2019.
- Pat Cummins – 17 wickets in 3 matches in Ashes 2019.
- England haven’t lost in their last 11 Tests here – last vs Pakistan in 2001.
- Australia – won 8 of their 30 previous Tests here.
- Joe Root – 524 runs in 4 games at Old Trafford.
England
Make sure you have captain Joe Root in your fantasy team. A failure in the Test against Ireland and two ducks in 3 games here already, Root is hungry for a big score especially after racking up runs in the recent CWC 2019. He has 2 fifties and will look for a big score now. However, the biggest disappointment so far has been Jason Roy, who scored 10, 28 in the 1st Test and since then, has 4 single digit scores.
To make his troubles less, Roy has been dropped down the order with Joe Denly set to open the innings. Denly hasn’t had the best of series either, but he’s a versatile player who can bowl as well, so I’ll be picking him. On the bowling front, Craig Overton has been called in to replace Chris Woakes, the former coming off 32 wickets in just 8 games in the County Championship. Overton has been picked over Sam Curran so the ‘all-rounder’ will be worth selecting.
Australia
The visitors have a few changes of their own. Firstly and most importantly, Steve Smith is back after a concussion scare post his hit to the head. 2 centuries in two and a half innings and Smith has overtaken Kohli on the Test batsmen rankings to get #1 back. He’s unstoppable and you can’t leave him out of your team. His replacement Marnus Labuschagne had a brilliant test as cover, so it would be too harsh to drop him.
With scores of 59, 74 and 80, Labuschagne has 3 fifties in 3 innings, and remember, he can bowl too, so he makes my FanFight (Sign-up and get Rs.30 FREE) fantasy team. Usman Khawaja got the axe in favour of Matthew Wade, who has 150 runs in 6 innings. Captain and wicket-keeper Tim Paine is even worse with 78 runs in 6 innings, so I’ll drop both. Peter Siddle only manged 5 wickets in his 2 games so we can expect Mitchell Starc to make his way into the team as well.
