The 2019/20 Super Smash was affected by rain in a few earlier matches and the men’s tournament in particular was affected by it. So far, Auckland Aces lost a games of games to rain and now have 2 wins in their 7 games in this tournament. They wouldn’t like this place at the lower half of the points table and would want to win especially since they’re playing Match 22 at their home ground.
They are now up against Central Districts, a team that also lost one game to rain but still managed to salvage 3 wins from their 7 games this season. The reverse fixture was an extremely tight game which saw Auckland emerging winners, but ever so slightly. Numbers
- Last 5 games head to head, Auckland leads 3-2.
- In the reverse fixture this season, Auckland won by 2 runs.
- Martin Guptill last 5 professional scores – 83*, 43, 43, 12, 46.
- Ajaz Patel – 12 wickets in 7 games in Super Smash 2019/20.
Auckland Aces
Auckland Aces bowlers haven’t been able to take many wickets, so go more batting heavy here. Openers Martin Guptill and Colin Munro are both national team specialists with plenty of experience and the former has been in good form too, with 226 runs in 5 innings this year. I wouldn’t mind gambling and dropping Munro for wicket-keeper Glenn Philips who is more reliable and has a best of 108* in 5 games this season.
With only 80 runs in 5 innings and the fact that he doesn’t bowl anymore means I’d leave Corey Anderson out of my side even though he comes with a big reputation. Will Somerville will also be out since he’s with the national side playing Australia. With the ball, Mitch McClenaghan has managed 5 wickets and e can hot a heavy ball if needed too, so I’ll have him in my AUK vs CD fantasy team.
Central Districts
32-year old Kieran Noema-Barnett has 2 ducks and overall 3 single-digit scores in his last 5 games but also has 2 fifties to go with 10 vital wickets this season, so he’s one of the first in my Howzat (sign-up with code “READ1234”) fantasy team today. The only person with more wickets than him is left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel who has also played 9 international games for New Zealand, so he’s a must-pick.
With the bat, captain Tom Bruce is a safe bet as he’s got 3 fifties in his last 10 games and only two single-digit scores. With 241 runs in 7 games, he’s one of the most consistent scorers in the tournament. Young Blair Tickner is a good option with the ball as he’s played 3 T20Is for New Zealand and bagged 3 scalps. Here too, he’s managed 7 wickets in 6 games so far in Super Smash 2019/20.
