After the limited overs leg a couple of months ago, Pakistan hosts Sri Lanka for a series of 2 test matches. Pakistan dominated the ODI series only to be defeated by a second string Sri Lankan side in the T20 series. After that, Pakistan had another unsuccessful tour of Australia before returning home for 2 tests, the 1st starting on 11th December at Rawalpindi.
Both teams are being led by new captains, the Sri Lankan captain seeing more success so far. This time however, Sri Lanka is sending a full strength squad and we could be in for a very exciting next couple of weeks in Pakistan. Pakistan
This Pakistan side is being led by Azhar Ali who didn’t have the best tour of Australia, with 3 single-digit scores in 4 innings, but I’ll pick him because before that, he had 2 fifties and 2 centuries in 5 FC games in Sep-Oct 2019. To help with batting, Fawad Alam is expected to make a comeback after 10 years to the national test side, after having a phenomenal FC season, with 781 runs in 10 games in the Quaid-e-Azam trophy.
With the ball, Hasan Ali has been ruled out with a rib injury but one person you can’t miss is Yasir Shah who had a great tour of Australia with 4 wickets in 2 games plus his maiden test century. Mohammad Abbas is another great pick with the ball even though he didn’t get any wickets in the test he played down under. He was also among the wickets in the county season in England recently.
Sri Lanka
Suranga Lakmal is out with dengue while former captain Dinesh Chandimal makes a return to the test squad, and he’s of the first picks in my Howzat (sign-up with code “READ1234”) fantasy team, having 22 FC centuries to his name. With the bat, you can also pick the captain Dimuth Karunaratne who has been consistently getting scores, even if he hasn’t managed to convert them to big scores too often.
All-rounders are key and that’s why I’m picking Dhananjaya de Silva in my fantasy side, who recently scored a century in the 2nd Test against New Zealand, also picking a 3-fer in the 1st Test. With 39 FC 5-fers to his name, Dilruwan Perera is one of the most experienced players in this Sri Lanka squad and we know that he can also hold his own with the bat when required of him.
