After sending a second string side to Pakistan, Sri Lanka managed a 3-0 whitewash against the hosts in the T20 series and now it’s time for the stiffer challenge as they play Australia in 3 T20Is between 27 October and 1 November 2019. Here, they begin the tour with a warm-up game against Prime Minister’s XI. Sri Lanka have made a few changes with many senior players returning to the squad for this 3-game series.
No men’s T20I has taken place at this ground yet but one women’s game between NZ Women and AUS Women took place, where 103 was scored in the 1st innings, which was easily chased down. Sri Lanka has named a 16-man squad for the tour while PM XI has named exactly 11 players for this game. Numbers
- Peter Siddle – at least a wicket in last 8 FC innings for Essex.
- Jordan Silk in last two games in Marsh One Day Cup – 59* 87.
- Lasith Malinga – 23 wickets in last 10 international outings.
- Nuwan Pradeep – 7 wickets in 2 T20Is against Pakistan.
Sri Lanka
Veteran pacer, the legendary Lasith Malinga is back in Sri Lankan colours and he will lead the side on this tour. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t pick him especially since he’s getting better with age; he picked a record-breaking 5/6 against New Zealand last month. Another good pick with the ball will be the 22-year old Wanindu Hasaranga who picked 8 wickets in the T20 series against Pakistan and he can be handy with the bat too.
Nuwan Pradeep will open the bowling alongside Malinga and he was also brilliant in the T20 series, bowling yorkers at ease. Now with the bat, we had a couple of good performers in Pakistan including Danushka Gunathilaka who top scored wit 57 and prior to that, scored 133 in the 3rd ODI as well. He makes a return and on bouncy pitches, I’d like to pick wicket-keeper batsman Kusal Perera even though he hasn’t got a 50+ score in 8 games for Sri Lanka.
Prime Minister’s XI
It might not surprise you to know that Chris Green is the first name on my fantasy team sheet. He’s an intelligent cricketer who has been travelling to play in countless T20 leagues. He went wicketless in his last 3 games at CPL 2019 but overall, he got 13 wickets in the season. The team is set to be captained by Peter Siddle who recently bagged 7 wickets in 3 test matches in Ashes 2019; however, he hasn’t always been great in the shorter formats.
In the all-rounders section, we have Daniel Christian who is vice-captain and should definitely be in your Howzat (sign-up with code “READ1234”) fantasy team. The 36-year old has plenty of experience and while he has nothing boast-worthy in the last couple of months, he’s still a very valuable player. Another all-rounder pick is Ben Cutting who has 50 runs and 2 wickets in his last 3 ODD games. It may be worth a gamble to leave Chris Lynn out.
