Sri Lanka Tour of Australia 2019 – 1st T20 Fantasy Preview

After beating Pakistan 3-0 in a T20I series in Lahore, Sri Lanka has now headed down under where they will play 3 T20Is against the mighty Australians on completely different, pacy and bouncy wickets. They played one warm-up game against Prime Minister’s XI with the latter crawling across the line and winning by 1 wicket. Now, the series begins against Australia with the 1st T20I scheduled at the Adelaide Oval.

Sri Lanka posted 131 in the warm-up game and lost with one ball to spare even though they managed to pick 9 wickets. However, they weren’t playing their strongest combination and we can expect that to change when the 1st T20 kicks off. In 4 previous T20Is at this ground, two have been won batting first and two batting second. Numbers

  • Head to head in last 5 T20Is, Australia leads 3-2.
  • Adam Zampa in only previous T20I at this ground – 3/25.
  • In 4 previous T20Is here, Australia have won only once.
  • Average 1st innings total here in 4 T20Is – 169 runs.
  • In their last tour of Australia in 2017, SL won the T20 series 2-1.

Australia

It’s going to be a international return at home for Steve Smith and David Warner. There seems to be so much of hunger in Smith, who scored 774 runs in just 7 innings in Ashes 2019 at a 100+ average while Warner couldn’t even score at 10+, getting 95 runs in 10 innings in that series. On the batting front, I’ll pick Smith and drop Warner, while I’ll also pick captain Aaron Finch. Finchy’s last 3 scores for Victoria read 57, 188*, 46, which shows what good form he is in.

While Glenn Maxwell didn’t have a great World Cup, he has brilliant before that, scoring 56 and 113* in the last 2 T20Is against India in India. He’s one of the only all-rounders in the team, so pick him for sure. With the ball, Pat Cummins has been a wicket-taking machine with 29 in 5 Ashes tests and 14 scalps in the CWC 2019 prior to that. Andrew Tye is out of the series with injury, so make sure you DON’T pick him.

Sri Lanka

Opener Danushka Gunathilaka scored a century in the ODI series and then a fifty in the 1st T20 in Pakistan, so he’s in good form and you shouldn’t miss him in your Rotobash (sign-up to get Rs.100 FREE) fantasy team even though he only scored 8 in the warm-up. Oshada Fernando scored 38(25) and ESPNcricinfo believes that’s enough to keep the experienced Kusal Perera out of the team, since he also scored 78* in his recent T20I debut.

Another hard hitter we have noticed is Dasun Shanaka who recently led the T20 team in Pakistan. He hit a few sixes in the lower order and though he didn’t bowl in that series, he’s expected to do so here, with 2/27 in his only previous T20I here. Lasith Malinga returns to the side as captain and he also picked 2/25 in his only previous T20I in Adelaide. Other options with the ball are Lakshan Sandakan and Kasun Rajitha, picking 3 wickets each in the warm-up.
