In July 2019, we were following the Sri Lanka and South Africa Emerging Teams triangular series so we ave an idea of the players that will be in the Sri Lanka Emerging Teams squad here as they tour Bangladesh to play their emerging team. Between 18 August – 6 September, they will play 3 unofficial ODIs followed by 2 unofficial Tests. SL-ET won the 1st ODI by 186 runs.
Formerly known as BKSP Ground, the first two games will be played at Krira Shikkha Prothisthan Ground in Savar. Once the 1st ODI is done, we will have a better idea as to what we can expect from the pitch here. Regardless, Bangladesh pitches usually assist spinners. Bangladesh Emerging Team
With the bat, I’ve been mighty impressed with Nazmul Hossain Shanto who has played 2 Tests and 3 ODIs for the Bangladesh senior team at the age of only 20. In recent months, he has scored a couple of seventies and a sixty for his domestic team Abahani Ltd so he’s in good touch. Another 20-year old in prime form at the moment is Saif Hassan and he also scored 50 in the 1st ODI here, while Shanto failed with the bat.
Hassan has three 50+ scores in his last 4 games for Prime DSC in the domestic circuit including a massive 148* two games ago. 19-year old Afif Hossain is an all-rounder although his last few games haven’t seen him picking any wickets at all. Regardless, he’s a good pick. A specialist bowler is Yeasin Arafat who had 5 wickets in his last 2 games before this series. He also picked a magical 8/40 for Gazi Group earlier this year.
Sri Lanka Emerging Team
I give national team experience first priority and that’s why I’ll pick Amila Aponso first who has played 9 ODIs and 3 T20Is. The last tri-series saw Asitha Fernando ending as the leading wicket-taker of the series but he isn’t in the squad now. Instead, pick Nuwan Thushara who has an action like Malinga and is often among the wickets for his domestic team. Thushara picked 2/21 in the 1st ODI.
Someone you want to pick in the batting section of your PlayerzPot (Use Code “READ1234”) fantasy team is the 20-year old Kamindu Mendis. His recent form doesn’t show a single 50+ score in his last 10 innings but he is a great talent and is capable of more. Also, he is always in the game, being thrown the ball in almost every game, so plenty of chances to earn fantasy points.
