Both of Bhutan and Nepal lost their respective opening games of the 2019 South Asian Games to Sri Lanka U-23. Now, they both have a chance to recover from that loss and open their account in this prestigious competition, where all the teams are fighting for the gold medal. Nepal have the home advantage and have far more exposure, so they clearly start as favourites in this game.
There wasn’t much of information on the team and squad of the Bhutan side, but it’s become slightly clearer after their first game against SL U-23. However, Nepal is a much stronger side, and I’ll be picking a 7-4 fantasy team in favour of Nepal. Numbers
- Dipendra Singh Airee – 72* in the last game against SL U-23 .
- Paras Khadka last 4 innings scores – 1, 1*, 3*, 5.
- Jigme Singye – record-breaking spell of 8/24 vs China in 2017.
- Bhutan are currently ranked 69th in the ICC T20I Rankings.
Bhutan
As you very often see in cricket among the lesser known nation, here too, the side will be led by the best all-rounder in the side, which is Jigme Singye. He scored 8 and went wicketless against a tough Sri Lanka bowling attack and should do better here. Talking about the bowling department, Karma Dorji was one of only 3 bowlers to get a wicket in that game and he should thus be picked.
All-rounders are key in fantasy cricket and Tobden Singye is one good option because he was also one of the players to get a wicket in that first game, though he conceded 56 runs in 4 overs. He also bats at #3 so there’s complete exposure for this player. Remember, he picked 4/23 against Singapore before this competition. Sonam Tobgay is also a good all-round player who scored 10 but went wicketless in his quota of 4 overs against SL U23.
Nepal
We spoke about how Dipendra Singh Airee is one of the best players in the side and he proved it by top scoring in the last game, though in a losing cause. He hasn’t been among the wickets but he bowled in all five games prior to this one. Surely worth of being picked as a captain or vice-captain. Opener Paras Khadka has had a lean patch but he’s easily the best batsman in the side and should be picked. He smashed 106* vs Singapore in September this year.
Since Bhutan has a weaker bowling attack, pick all the Nepal top order batsman in your MyFab11 (sign-up with code “READAD46“) fantasy team including Aarif Sheikh and captain Gyanendra Malla, who scored 19 and 21 respectively in the last game. Your x-factor all-rounder player has to be Pawan Sarraf who has been consistently performing with bat and ball of late. Against SL U-23, he scored 22 and picked 2 wickets as well.
