We’re all set. It’s finally here. The 2020 Pakistan Super League is upon us and once again, the six franchise teams representing different regions of Pakistan will battle it out for ultimate glory in PSL 2020. In Match 1 of the season, defending champions Quetta Gladiators will take the field against Islamabad United, having enjoyed a good rivalry in past years.
Islamabad also had a good season with 5 wins in 10 games, finishing third on the points table but they sadly couldn’t make the final of PSL 2019. It’s a fresh start for both teams with changes to both squads and we’ll recommend you to choose your fantasy teams wisely for the first round of games. Numbers
- Head to head in last 5 games, Quetta leads 3-2.
- Shane Watson – 6 single-digit scores in last 10 innings.
- Ahmed Shehzad – 3 centuries and 3 fifties in last 10 games.
- Dale Steyn – 15 wickets in 8 games at recent MSL 2019.
Quetta Gladiators
The side is being led by Sarfaraz Ahmed, former Pakistan national captain who was recently relieved of his duties. After a poor run of scores, he scored a century and a fifty in the recent FC season, but I’ll leave him out regardless. Shane Watson is in the squad but may take time to settle in. Ahmed Shehzad is making a good case to make the national side again, especially with 100 and 100* in an FC game for Central Punjab in December.
Another attacking batsman who will be good for T20 cricket is Ahsan Ali who recently made his debut for Pakistan in 2 T20Is, and scored 6 fifties in his last 8 games before that. With the ball, Mohammad Hasnain has been rising through the ranks fast with 15 wickets in just his last 6 professional games. With 7 wickets and a couple of forties in his last 10 games, Mohammad Nawaz is also a good fantasy pick.
Islamabad United
Leg-spinner Shadab Khan is leading the team and I’m picking him not because he has 12 wickets in his last 10 games, but because he’s not gone wicketless in his last 8 games, so fantasy points are almost guaranteed. Dale Steyn only got 1 wicket in 2 recent T20Is against England, but he bowled brilliantly in those 2 games. He will miss the first couple of games because of international duties.
Colin Munro has been named in the Islamabad squad and he should be in your Howzat (sign-up with code “READ1234”) fantasy team because of his good form including 2 fifties in 5 T20Is against India and his last game at the Ford Trophy saw a score of 104 as well. Though he only has a best score of 11 in his last 5 games, Dawid Malan had 2 fifties and a century in 4 games prior to that and is a great T20 player.
