The 1st ODI saw Australia completing an easy 8-wicket victory. It was something we all expected, as Pakistan is playing a squad with plenty of inexperienced bowlers and Mohammad Amir, who is the only experienced one but he has never really found his rhythm after making his comeback. Pakistan put up a good total of 280 on a slow track, but if you can’t pick wickets, you can’t win.
Another thing that is necessary to win matches is taking caches. There were quite a few dropped catches by Pakistan and if they can’t fix these two issues, we may see Australia taking away another victory in the 2nd ODI, which is also being played in Sharjah. The batting looked solid and a contest is guaranteed if the ‘home team’ fields and bowls better. Pakistan
Pakistan played just 5 specialist batsmen in the 1st ODI and you can add at least 3 of them in the 2nd ODI. My pick of Haris Sohail for the 1st ODI turned out to be a high-value one, but now that he will become a popular one, drop him for someone else like Imam ul Haq or Shan Masood. I would like to have Shoaib Malik in my team as well, but he is playing the role of a finisher more than an anchor, so he won’t be my captain or vice-captain.
Also pick a couple of all-rounders from Pakistan, as there won’t be much value in your fantasy leagues by picking Pakistan bowlers. Imad Wasim scored a quickfire 28* and if he’s in my team, hoping he picks up a few wickets as well. In the preview of the 1st ODI, we spoke about how Umar Akmal has been presented yet another chance; probably the final chance and a perfect one, right before the World Cup. 48(50) was a good start to the series but he really needs much more.
Australia
Australia is going to use this series to try out all their players ahead of the ICC 2019 World Cup and Pat Cummins is one who will be rotated into the squad. Another person expected to get a spot in the team and an added run after his match-winning knock against India is Ashton Turner, and he could come in for Glenn Maxwell or Marcus Stoinis.
Simply put, Shaun Marsh needs runs. He had scores of 16, 7 and 6 against India and his place in the team is certainly in danger, especially once the likes of David Warner and Steve Smith return. Usman Khawaja’s good show at the top means Peter Handscomb could the other player who is in doubt. Regardless, Marsh’s 91* in the last game was a good sign and I’d pick him in my fantasy side for the 2nd ODI, as well as Alex Carey. As a wicket-keeper batsman, Carey provides more value than Mohammad Rizwan.
