Not sure what sense it makes to be playing a T20 international a couple of weeks before a major world tournament begins in the 50-over format. Regardless, England is hosting Pakistan for a one-off T20 before they play 5 ODIs before the ICC 2019 World Cup. The tour will be vital preparations for both and in swinging conditions, I don’t think Pakistan will do too badly.
The 1st T20 begins today at Cardiff while 5 ODI later will be played until 19th May. Pakistan is the number 1 T20 side in the world, recently having ended a 11-series winning streak in South Africa. England come off a narrow victory in Ireland but they are tipped to do better in home conditions. England
Another chance for Jofra Archer to prove his mettle as he is set to make his T20 debut for England too. On ODI debut, he picked up one wicket but was overshadowed by Liam Plunkett’s 4 wickets and Tom Curran’s 3 wickets. However, this is the format for which Archer became famous and you can’t leave him out of your team here. Ben Foakes and Ben Duckett are set to make their respective debuts as well, with the latter coming in for an injured Dawid Malan.
Another T20 specialist is Chris Jordan, so he and Archer could be a part of you bowling attack. With the bat, don’t forget to select James Vince, who scored only 18 in the ODI against Ireland but he has been in scintillating form for his domestic side Hampshire, having scored 430 runs in 6 games in the Royal London One Day Cup. Joe Denly can fill one of your all-rounder spots.
Pakistan
Babar Azam is going to be one of the most important members of this team, mostly set to open the innings as he does in T20s. He as well as his opening partner Fakhar Zaman have been in good touch in recent times and they could both be a part of your fantasy teams. Both performed in recent warm-up games against Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Kent. Azam scored a fifty and a century while Zaman scored two fifties and a century.
Pakistan have an in-form batting line up which sees wicket-keeper Sarfraz Ahmed batting down low at #5 or #6, which means I’d prefer Ben Foakes as my wicket-keeper. Shoaib Malik is not available having returned to Pakistan for personal issues which means Asif Ali and Haris Sohail become the all-rounders. Imad Wasim scored 117*(78) against Kent and has 4 wickets in 3 games since coming to England.
