Pakistan Tour of England 2019 – 1st ODI Fantasy Preview

England had a relatively easy chase in the one-off T20, winning by 7 wickets with 4 balls to spare but now’s the real challenge as we move into the 50-over format, the important one considering the 50-over ICC World Cup is a couple of weeks away. They now host Pakistan for a series of 5 ODIs and the series begins with the 1st ODI in London.

England is considered as one of the best ODI teams in the world at the moment while Pakistan last played at this ground in 2017, where they absolutely thrashed India in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy. However, Pakistan haven’t had a great ODI record in recent times, also losing 5-0 to Australia in UAE in March. Stats

  • England have won 6 of their last 7 ODIs at this ground.
  • Pakistan have won only 3 of their 10 ODIs at this ground.
  • 300+ has been scored 19 times here; highest score is 398/5 – NZ, June 2015.
  • Eoin Morgan has 573 runs in 14 matches here.
  • Pakistan has won only 2 of their 10 ODIs in 2019.

England

Even though he bats down in the middle order, Eoin Morgan becomes my first name on this team sheet as he has been in good touch, scoring a couple of good innings in the Royal London One Day Cup before his match-winning 57* in the T20 vs Pakistan. Further, he is the highest run scorer at this ground, while Joe Root has also been pretty good here, with 429 runs in just 8 games at an average of 60+! Get them both in your Funtasy11 (sign-up with code “6CD431) team.

Both teams are trying out players who aren’t in the World Cup squad and England have a few trials too. Jason Roy is still injured which means the in-form James Vince gets another go; Moeen Ali has a rib injury giving Joe Denly another go as well. With the ball, Jofra Archer should get another go while Mark Wood is expected to sit out.

Pakistan

The person who will be watched the most ahead of the World Cup is Mohammad Amir and while we all want him to do well, he has only picked up 5 wickets since that Champions Trophy final against India in 2017. The swinging conditions here in London may help him catch his rhythm back. Asif Ali is another player who will get a chance and will be closely eyed.

With the bat, Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman are in spectacular form. Zaman had a rare failure in the T20, having scored only 7 after 229 runs in 3 innings in warm-ups in England. Azam on the other hand failed with only 9 in the first warm-up but his next 3 scores in 2 warm-ups and the single T20 read 68*, 101, 65. It could even be a good idea to make this guy your captain or vice-captain for this game. For the wicket-keeper pick, go for England’s Jos Buttler.
