One Day Cup 2019 - Essex vs Sussex Fantasy Preview

Stats

  • In the last 4 games head to head, Essex haven’t lost to Sussex.
  • Varun Chopra (Essex) has 238 runs in 2 games this season.
  • Peter Siddle (Essex) has 11 wickets in 5 games this season.
  • Mir Hamza (Sussex) has 11 wickets in 4 games this season.
  • Luke Wright (Sussex) has 258 runs in just 3 games this season.

Essex

Varun Chopra may have had 2 centuries in 2 games, but remember, he hasn’t played the next few games after that. Now, your next best bet becomes Tom Westley, who has a similar amount of runs in this season of the Royal London One Day Cup, but has played all games so far. 40, 16, 9, 15, 17 – Sir Alastair Cook’s score so far this season. Remember why he retired from one day cricket so early. SKIP him.

165 runs and 6 wickets is what Ravi Bopara has so far in this tournament, and he is always a must-pick in fantasy game in English County Cricket. His experience and ability to always contribute makes him my vice-captain for this game. 5 wickets and a couple of fifties is what Dan Lawrence has in this competition so far, and I’ll pick him over captain Ryan ten Doeschate, who bats too low down for my liking.

Sussex

There’s no substitute for experience and that’s what Luke Wright has been offering Sussex since years. Now only a batsman, Wright has one fifty and one century in 3 games so far and he is a good contender for captaincy in this game, but I’d prefer an all-rounder for this post. David Wiese is a good option.

Wiese has only 3 wickets in his 4 games so far, but his hitting abilities are also to be taken into account. His 92* in the first game is something you can’t forget soon. Also, at the top of the order there’s Philip Salt who has two successive failures with 7 and 0, but he is one hell of a talent and his 137* before these couple of failures was an example of what he can do with the bat.
