We’re already on to Match 4 of the 2019 Marsh One Day Cup which is a domestic ODD tournament in Australia. Today, Queensland plays host to South Australia at Brisbane, with the former already having played one game this season. They ended victorious after beating New South Wales by 4 wickets a couple of days back.
As for South Australia, they are playing their first game of the 2019 season, and will be looking to kick start their season on a winning note. Sadly, they haven’t had the best results against Queensland, losing their last 2 games to the home side. Numbers
- Head to head in last 5 games, Queensland leads 3-2.
- Jimmy Pieirson – 10 innings since last 50+ score.
- Marnus Labuschagne in Ashes 2019 – 59, 74, 80, 67, 11, 58, 14.
- Callum Ferguson – 1 and 0 in recent FC game for Worcestershire.
- Lloyd Pope – 7/87 in an FC game for South Australia in Nov 2018.
South Australia
Travis Head is being rested for the team’s opening two fixtures which gives a chance to Jake Lehmann to captain the side and I wouldn’t mind picking him as he had a couple of List A fifties for Lancashire in the recent season in England. It was 12 innings since Callum Ferguson’s last 50+ score for Worcs in England so I’ll skip him in the middle order.
Instead, I’d select someone like Alex Ross in the middle order who proved himself over the last couple of seasons of the Big Bash League. Also, pick Alex Carey as he has international experience behind him now along with a few fifties for Sussex recently. With the ball, Joe Mennie picked up 11 scalps in 3 FC games for South Australia earlier this year while leggie Adam Zampa had a good season for Essex too.
Queensland
Queensland is being captain by Jimmy Pieirson but I’ll skip him from my Nostragamus (sign-up with “READSCOOPS” for Rs.100 FREE) fantasy picks as he hasn’t been among the runs in recent months. However, Sam Heazlett at the top seems like a good option, scoring 70 in the opening game after an FC innings of 68 prior to that. Usman Khawaja is out for the first week, rested after the 2019 Ashes.
Another batsman I refuse to leave out of my team is Marnus Labuschagne who had a fantastic time at the 2019 Ashes, with 5 fifties in just 7 innings through the series. Another must pick player is Jack Wildermuth who scored a fifty in the opening game along with 1 wicket in 9 overs. Pick the all-rounder while you can go for the tall and lanky Billy Stanlake with the ball.
