The Jersey cricket team is back in action after busting out of the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier in UAE a while ago. Now, the team is in Oman where they are set to play 5 games against 5 different oppositions over the next ten days. Ironically, Oman itself is not a part of this competition. Match 1 will take place between Jersey and Uganda.
While ICC has given international status to all T20 playing countries, this is a 50-over tour so there won’t be any taken as an ‘international game’. Jersey has played more cricket than Uganda in recent months and they will obviously start as favourites today. Numbers
- Head to head, these two haven’t faced off before.
- Jonty Jenner – 2 fifties in 6 games in the T20 WC Qualifier.
- Brian Masaba – only 56 runs and 3 wickets in last 10 games.
Jersey
The side is being captain by Charles Perchard who is a medium pacer who has usually always been among the wickets. While he doesn’t bat much, he has 6 wickets in his last 5 games and 13 in his last 10 games for Jersey. Slow left-arm bowler Elliot Miles picked up 3/22 in his last game at the Qualifier against a strong Oman batting line-up, so he’s also one player worth considering for your JER vs UGA fantasy side.
All-rounders are key in fantasy cricket and the best all-rounder in this side is Dominic Blampied who has a best of 43* and a bowling best of 4/20 in 17 T20Is for Jersey till date. In the last game against Oman, he picked 3/27 and scored 19* as well. Given his all-round contributions, he’s a good choice for your fantasy team captain as well.
Uganda
Some sources suggest that Brian Masaba will be leading the side for this game but I’ll leave him out of my MyFab11 (sign-up with code “READAD46“) fantasy team purely because he hasn’t contributed much to the team in recent games. Other sources suggest Roger Mukasa is the captain and he’s a worthy pick because he has a List A as well as an FC century, and he bowls once in a way too.
Pakistan born Riazat Ali Khan is another player who’s a worthy captain/vice-captain pick. The 21-year old is always among the runs, with scores of 53* and 44* in his last 2 games against Ghana and Kenya. To add to that, he also has 7 wickets in his last 10 games for the country. Another all-rounder option is Kenneth Waiswa who scored 61* and picked 1/28 in his last professional game against Singapore last year.
