The 2019 Caribbean Premier League has reached its business end with just a couple of games yet to be played. Of them, one is Qualifier 2 which, as the name suggests, gives both teams a chance to qualify to the CPL 2019 final. Defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders have the home advantage as we move to the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. They have the momentum of a win in the Eliminator.
As for their opponents Barbados Tridents, they are coming off a loss in Qualifier 1, losing to Guyana Warriors. After finishing second on the points table, they leaked 218 runs in the qualifier and have a second chance today, but they will need their spirits to be lifted after that last loss. Numbers
- Last 5 games head to head, Barbados leads 3-2.
- Lendl Simmons – 429 runs in 11 games in CPL 2019.
- James Neesham – 11 wickets in 10 games in CPL 2019.
- Hayden Walsh Jr – 19 wickets in 7 games in CPL 2019.
Trinbago Knight Riders
The batting unit has been carried by Lendl Simmons who has faithfully given the team a start in almost every game including the last game where he scored a fifty on a slow pitch. That’s how much his experience counts as he can adapt to all conditions. With 5 fifties in 11 innings, he’s a must pick. The explosion in the line up can be provided by Colin Munro and Kieron Pollard, with the latter being more responsible as captain. Munro has 2 single-digit scores in his last 4 games so I’ll skip him.
James Neesham has been their leading wicket-taker but he is likely to miss out today as he did in the last game. Sunil Narine returned in the last game and he showed why he is boss, picking 2/10 in a crucial game, while his batting is a bonus. Darren Bravo has scores of 1, 9, 6 in his last 3 innings while Seekugge Prasanna is a good talent not being used right, so I’ll skip both. Ali Khan is a must have, with 8 wickets in 9 games this season.
Barbados Tridents
Captain Jason Holder can’t be missed from your fantasy team as he can bat as well as bowl. He scored 29 in the last game and that time spent at the crease will help him as he had only one other double-digit score in CPL 2019. He also has 13 wickets in 11 games. To assist him with the ball is overseas signing Harry Gurney who had a rare expensive game in the first qualifier. He has 9 wickets in 6 games and has plenty of T20 experience.
Another player who didn’t have a great last game was the vastly experienced Shakib al Hasan but given his form and a fantastic CWC 2019, he’s in my Nostragamus (sign-up with “READSCOOPS” for Rs.100 FREE) fantasy picks for sure. He’s also worth picking as a captain or vice-captain. Shai Hope played his first game of the season in the last game. 21(16) and a couple of sixes means he isn’t rusty and is worth a pick.
