Mzansi T20 2019 – JOZ vs CTB Fantasy Preview

6 teams representing 6 different regions of the beautiful country of South Africa will battle it out once again in the shortest form of the game of cricket, as the Mzansi Super League 2019 is now upon us. Last year, Jozi Stars had a fantastic season and they ended it by lifting the trophy after an easy 8-wicket win against Cape Town Blitz in the final. The opening game of this season will be a repeat of last year’s final, on 8th November 2019.

Cape Town and Jozi both had a good outing in the round robin stage, winning 6 out of 10 games each, and the former topping the table with a higher net run rate. 30 round robin games will be played in MSL T20 2019 followed by an eliminator and the mega final on 16th December 2019. Numbers

  • Head to head in this tournament, Jozi Stars leads 2-1.
  • Rassie van der Dussen – 469 runs in 12 games in MSL 2018.
  • Shoaib Malik – 317 runs and 6 wickets in 12 games in CPL 2019.
  • Quinton de Kock – 412 runs in only 8 games in MSL 2018.

Jozi Stars

With the bat, this team is extremely strong having many international players including Rassie van der Dussen. He scored 4 fifties in 12 games last year, topping the run-scoring charts; he now has 7 fifties in 18 ODIs for SA. With him, Reeza Hendricks also had 400+ runs that season, though he never produced the same results for SA. Chris Gayle is in the squad too but I’ll avoid him as he will be expensive and he only scored 43 runs in 4 games last season.

With the ball, Duanne Olivier topped the bowling charts with 20 wickets in 10 games and he is still in good rhythm having picked 5/108 in his last FC game for Yorkshire last month. A couple of other all-round overseas options are Shoaib Malik and Daniel Christian and I’ll pick Malik for sure, having a good tournament in the Caribbean recently. Delano Potgieter is a high-value pick with two 4-fers and a best of 53* in 7 recent games for Gauteng.

Cape Town Blitz

One player you must include in your PlayerzPot (Use Code “READ1234”) fantasy team is overseas signing Liam Livingstone because he has 3 fifties in his last 3 FC games for Lancashire. In the recent 2019 T20 Blast, he picked 14 wickets and scored 273 runs in 10 games, so he’s a potential fantasy side captain. Another overseas signing is Asif Ali but he hasn’t historically done well out of Asia. You can pick Mohammad Nawaz as he contributes with both bat and ball. Moeen Ali will be with the team for the first 2 games.

They’re last overseas signing is Wahab Riaz and while consistency has never been his forte, he can destroy batting line ups on a goo day, so pick him for sure. Your wicket-keeper pick could be international opener Quinton de Kock who recently scored a century on the tour to India as well. Another option with the ball is needed and while it’ll be good to see Dale Steyn back, he could well be past his prime. Pick the young an exciting pacer, Anrich Nortje.
