Malaysia Tri Series 2019 – MLD vs TL Fantasy Preview

We’ve seen two matches conclude so far in this 2019 Malaysia T20 tri-series, where the hosts played back-to-back games and won both, considering they are ranked much higher in the ICC T20 Rankings. They beat Thailand by 5 wickets and then beat Maldives by 73 runs, restricting both opponents to 113 with the bat, so they both seem to be on an equal footing. Now, it’s Thailand vs Maldives in Match 3 of the tri-series.

The game will be played at the same Kinrara Oval and considering Malaysia made 186 in the second game, it doesn’t seem to be as bad a batting track as the initial average score of 118 suggested. So, take some time off from the ICC 2019 World Cup and try and make some easy money playing fantasy cricket in this tr-series. Thailand are our favourites. Stats

  • Thailand is ranked 55th in the ICC T20 Rankings.
  • Maldives is ranked 72nd in the ICC T20 Rankings.
  • Last game – Malaysia beat Maldives by 73 runs.

Maldives

Picking all-rounders is a key in T20 cricket and the best option I see here is Nilantha Cooray. He didn’t do too well batting at number 5 and scoring only 5 but he picked 3 wickets in his 4 overs, so here’s one player you definitely want in your fantasy side. Ahmed Hassan is another all-round option you can consider. He only bowled a single over but was used as the fifth bowler option and even scored 40 with the bat, so there’s multiple chances of scoring points from this player.

The Thailand wicket-keeper batted down at number 8 in the opening game of this tri-series so my wicket-keeper pick would be Maldives’ Sharfraz Jaleel who scored 17(12) in the last game. Obviously, the higher chances of batting means higher chances of scoring fantasy points. Captain Mohamed Mahfooz picked up 1 wicket in the last game and he has rarely picked up more than 1 in his last few international games. Regardless, he bowls out his entire quota so could be worth considering.

Thailand

Ziaul Hoque will be one of my first picks from the Thailand side, having bowled a fantastic spell of 1/13 in 4 overs vs Malaysia. Further, he is a number 5 batsman which means the chance of scoring runs is higher even though he only managed 12 runs in that game. The captain Vichanath Singh is a good option with the ball, also bowling a fine spell of 1/19 in his 4 overs. He has constantly been among the wickets in recent months.

The only two players to make 30+ scores in that opening game were Henno Jordaan (33) and Naveed Pathan (37), with the latter also being thrown the ball for an over, which saw him picking a wicket too. If you want to pick front line bowlers and not all-rounders, choose Mahsid Faheem in your Howzat (sign-up with code “READ1234”) fantasy team as he picked up 2/26 in his 4 overs against Malaysia.
