The Ireland Inter-Provincial T20 tournament kicks off on 20th August and we have a couple of games scheduled for the opening day of the league, with just 4 teams in contention to battle it out for the trophy. In Match 1, we have North-West Warriors playing Northern Knights, the latter being the defending champions of the league. Simultaneously, Match 2 of the Inter-Provincial Trophy also kicks off at another venue!
It’s going to be Leinster Lightning in action and this team is clear favourites for this encounter only because of the fact that they have a lot of heavyweights in the team who have international exposure. We however, can’t say the same for Munster Reds who are their opponents in this game which is being played in Dublin. Numbers
- Last 4 completed games H2H, Leinster leads 3-1.
- Andrew Balbirnie – 113 in 3rd ODI against England.
Leinster Lightning
You should pick those who have international experience first and one of the names that come to mind is their captain George Dockrell who was one of the breakthrough bowlers who has been working on his batting as well in recent years. Current Irish national team captain Andrew Balbirnie has been brilliant in recent years and no one will forget his century in the 3rd ODI dead rubber against England recently.
Talking about young and talented batsmen, the 23-year old Gareth Delany also made his national debut recently and he bowls leg-spinners once in a while too, so I wouldn’t mind including him in my LLG vs MUR fantasy team. Many may pick Kevin O’Brien but I see a potential match-winning fantasy pick in Simi Singh who is an underrated batsman who bowls well as well, and may even complete his quota of overs!
Munster Reds
This team doesn’t have many players with international exposure but one of them is bowler Max Sorensen who hasn’t appeared for Ireland in a while but he has plenty of experience with 42 wickets in 39 games for the national side so far. He was their top bowler in the 2019 T20 season and likewise, Stephen Doheny was their top batsman, 21-year old who has plenty of talent and a couple of fifties for Ireland A this year.

Coming from a family of good cricketers, Jonathan Garth is someone who could be a high-value pick in your MyFab11 (Use code “READAD46“) fantasy team because he bats and bowls both with 5 wickets and a top score of 45 in 2 career FC games so far. In their last encounter in the 2019 season, it was Cormac Hassett who top scored in that game with 49 and he’s worth being picked in today’s team too.
