Today’s IPL 2019 match is going to be nothing short of a showstopper. Not only did these two teams win their respective opening matches, but they both managed stunning comebacks from a point where they where written off. It shows character of the team, holding nerves when required in pressure situations. We’re talking about Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab.
Yesterday too, we spoke about the DD vs CSK game where one team would suffer their first loss of the tournament. Similarly today, as KKR play KXIP in Kolkata on a spin friendly wicket where the home team has enjoyed a strong dominance over the years. Kolkata
We saw how Andre Russell turned the game for Kolkata Knight Riders in their first outing and that’s why there’s high importance on picking quality all-rounders in the Indian Premier League. If they fail with the bat, they can do well with the ball and vice versa. In the KKR camp, Russell is someone you can’t miss, as with all their foreign players like Lynn, Narine and Ferguson. Sunil Narine is fit again after a small finger injury, which means you may see him batting up the order again.
KKR have a strong spin attack which means we could see more than just Narine bowling in the powerplay overs to an in-form Chris Gayle. I believe DK will be successful with his tactics against the Universe Boss and get him out cheaply. Regardless of his brilliant form, I’m keeping Gayle off my team and making his opening partner KL Rahul my captain. With the ball, Kuldeep Yadav is a must-pick.
Punjab
There’s going to be a lot of pressure on Kings XI Punjab coming into this game, particularly with all the controversy over the Ravi Ashwin ‘Mankading’ incident. We’re expecting a few changes including the massive one of last year’s Purple Cap holder Andrew Tye coming in, and he may most probably fill in the boots of Sam Curran. I’ll pick him as a normal player as we aren’t 100% sure of his participation.
Another person who is set to return to the playing eleven is David Miller, but once again, we can’t be 100% sure. Nicholas Pooran has been in good form so it’ll be harsh if he is dropped. However, Miller may very well be given preference, as he has been a destructive force in the IPL over the years. Also, he has been practicing keeping for the national team recently, while KL Rahul is also a suitable replacement behind the stumps.
