IPL 2019 Match 49 – RCB vs RR Fantasy Preview

If it wasn’t already, it’s now all officially over for Royal Challengers Bangalore at the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL). Sadly, they peaked too late in the competition and now have only 4 wins after 12 games. Their main aim right now will be to play party poopers for other teams and this is their first chance to do so, hosting Rajasthan Royals.

RR is slightly above RCB at 10 points, a team that has done equally as bad as RCB in IPL 2019. What makes things worse is that RR is now playing without the likes of Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer, all gone for national duties. • Average 1st innings score here – 158 runs.

Bangalore

0, 5, 9, 1 – these are Shimron Hetmyer’s scores in IPL 2019 so far, but after having dropping him for so many games, I believe it’s the right time to reintroduce him. He should be brought in for Heinrich Klaasen, who also failed in the last game with only 3. RCB are happy with their Indian bowling attack and in case they want some more experience, Tim Southee is available and ready on the bench.

With the bat, no one will forget the failures for AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli the last time these two teams played, with leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal dismissing them both. However, they are world class batsmen who learn quickly from mistakes and that’s why Kohli is my captain and AB de Villiers is my vice-captain for today.

Rajasthan

Sanju Samson has shown tendencies to struggle against off-spin and leg-spin, striking at just 117 against them, which means Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar may be used in tandem against him. Also, since Liam Livingstone flourished at the opening spot, I’ll pick the Englishman and drop Samson for Parthiv Patel, who has been good in his last couple of outings for RCB.

It’s the last game in IPL 2019 for Steve Smith and just like we saw David Warner bow out in style, we expect Smith to do the same so Smith is also in my fantasy team. With the ball, both of Oshane Thomas and Varun Aaron are able to produce a lot of pace and bounce, and I’ll pick the former as Indian batsmen haven’t seen a lot of him in the past. The RR team should stay unchanged.
