The 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen quite a few ups and downs so far but if there’s one thing that has been consistent then it has to be Chennai Super Kings. In their 8 games so far, they’ve only succumbed to a loss once before while Sunrisers Hyderabad, who host CSK in this game, have let their campaign slip slightly.
Suddenly, SRH is in the bottom half of the IPL 2019 points table for the first time this season, with just 3 wins in 7 games including 3 consecutive losses. Possibly the two most consistent sides in the history of IPL face off for the first time this season and it’s going to be a cracker of a game. Hyderabad
In every game of IPL 2019 so far, I’ve been picking Vijay Shankar in my fantasy team as either captain or vice-captain. However, as you see above, his record against spinners in the IPL have been pathetic. What that means is if CSK get Warner/Bairstow early, there’s a chance of another Hyderabad collapse. I’m skipping Warner and Shankar from my team.
Batsmen in this season have learned to respect Rashid Khan. What this means is that while he has been among the most economical players in the tournament, Rashid has only picked up 6 wickets in 7 games. Shakib al Hasan is set to be called back to the Bangladesh national camp while I’d like to see Mohammad Nabi come back in place of Kane Williamson.
Chennai
Now this team seems to be on a rampage. They’ve had issues like death overs bowling and slow starts by batsmen, but the wins just keep coming. Imran Tahir and Deepak Chahar have been the heroes for this team so far, with 13 and 10 wickets respectively in 8 games and they are definitely in my fantasy team. In fact, I’d be tempted to make Tahir my vice-captain as well.
MS Dhoni loves going in with winning combinations, which means Mitch Santner may very well get another game ahead of Scott Kuggeleijn. MSD is Chennai’s leading run-scorer in IPL 2019 with 230 runs and that’s the most alarming factor as the top order hasn’t been able to give them good starts. Shane Watson only has 111 runs in 8 games at an average of 13.87! I’m going to make a gamble and pick Watson as my captain.
