A couple of weeks into the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) and these two teams find themselves on the opposite side of the spectrum so far. Rajasthan Royals haven’t been too bad but results haven’t been coming in as they are right at the bottom of the IPL 2019 points table, only above RCB, with just a single win in 5 games thus far.
They now play host to Chennai Super Kings, a team which has lost just the one game in 6 matches so far, and a team which can seem to do no wrong at the moment in IPL 2019. Even though they have the home advantage, CSK have the most balanced team even without the injured Dwayne Bravo, led by captain cool, MS Dhoni. Rajasthan
As per coach Amol Mazumdar, Sanju Samson will not be rushed back into the side, out with a thigh strain. The problems in the middle order will continue as Prashant Chopra (a classical opener) was handed his debut in the last game but didn’t get a bat. Similarly, Rahul Tripathi, who brilliantly as opener for Pune Supergiant, has only 80 runs in 5 games this season, batting out of position. All problems may be solved if Ajinkya Rahane steps away as opener.
As you can see the stats above, Rahane has struggled in IPL 2019. Can he come down the order while letting Tripathi open? Another person who has suffered is Ben Stokes, who hasn’t picked too many wickets while having score only 76 runs in 5 games. Seeing him struggle in the last game, I am finally dropping him after having picked him as captain or vice-captain for 5 straight RR matches. Jofra Archer has also struggled with 3 wickets in 5 games. Drop both these star players.
Chennai
We speak about Jos Buttler being a dangerous opener and wicket keeper, but my keeper for today is only MS Dhoni. Why? For multiple reasons. Firstly, MSD scored 75(46)* in the reverse fixture, including 3 sixes to end the innings. Secondly, Buttler hasn’t been very good against spin and Dhoni has used his spinners beautifully in IPL 2019 so far.
Imran Tahir, Deepak Chahar and Harbhajan Singh all are three right among the top wicket-takers of the season, with 9, 8 and 7 wickets each. Tahir is a must in your team, while Bhajji has bowled brilliantly, varying his pace like a master. Remember, Bhajji has played 2 games less than the other two. Shane Watson could become a good pick today as he looked in fine touch in the last game, after 5 prior failures.
