There have been a few times we have seen great comebacks in the Indian Premier League (IPL). A team has even come from losing 5 games upfront to winning the tournament. However, with a non-threatening bowling attack and a failing batting order, can Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) make that same comeback? Just when you thought they were in trouble with 4 winless games, they now have to play another tough opponent.
RCB hosts Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 17 of IPL 2019 and honestly, it’s going to be a long season for RCB if they don’t prise out their first victory here today. Expect another few changes in the RCB side that hasn’t beaten KKR since a while. The latter chased 176 and 177 in IPL 2018 to win both fixtures. Bangalore
Negatives? Still no Nathan Coulter-Nile. When Marcus Stoinis joined the squad, Coulter-Nile will arrive on 13th April. This means there will be another game for Shimron Hetmyer who has been anything but impressive this year. He has 15(26) in 4 matches so far, with a high-score of 9. Also, RCB only have the one specialist spinner in Yuzvendra Chahal. It would be nice to see Washington Sundar getting a game. Also, Tim Southee may come in for Colin de Grandhomme.
Positives? There aren’t many, honestly. Stoinis can be a versatile all-rounder and he’s my captain for this game again. Kohli and AB de Villiers have been continuously getting out to the leg-spinners and googlies so if the other batsmen can support these two, we can see RCB taking advantage elsewhere. An example is that ABD strikes at over 300 against left arm spinners since IPL 2015. Beware Kuldeep Yadav.
Kolkata
I don’t see any reason why Kolkata would want to make any changes to their playing eleven. The likes of Nitish Rana and Robin Uthappa both make my team because of consistency at the top, while someone like Andre Russell cannot be ignored. If playing in a 1-on-1 fantasy contest, make him captain or vice-captain. If not, choose him as a regular player. 49*, 48 and 62 are his scores in IPL 2019, to go with 5 wickets in 3 games.
Russell has been a match-winner in all three games and he would’ve had three Man of the Match awards if not for their super over loss against Delhi. However, the team returns after a 4-day break and could be extremely fresh going into this contest. Prasidh Krishna, who is an extremely talented young bowler, has 0 wickets in 3 games this year. Keep the faith and pick him.
