The wait is over. Here’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for since 10 months now, after Shane Watson guided Chennai Super Kings (CSK) home to their third title win in 2018. We’re now back to some more Indian Premier League (IPL) action and to start off proceedings in IPL 2019, we couldn’t have asked for a better encounter. It’s fire vs ice. It’s calm vs aggressive. It’s MS Dhoni vs Virat Kohli.
All the odds are stacked against Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and why not? They haven’t performed well as a team in the last two years and have not defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since IPL 2014. To make matters worse, the game is being played in Chennai, where RCB last beat CSK way back in IPL 2008. We’re back to Chennai now for Match 1 of IPL 2019, and you can keep reading for our complete fantasy preview of this CSK vs RCB game…

Chennai
The match is going to have many mini contests within the bigger contest. Not just is it the ‘Baap vs Beta’ MSD vs VK contest, but there will also be a race between VK and Suresh Raina, and these two have been competing for the #1 spot for a couple of years now. Raina is a must have in your IPL fantasy cricket team, as he manages to switch on when the IPL takes place and gives out his best performances. Remember, he is a good choice for captain as he has a golden arm with the ball as well.
Remember, the aging MS Dhoni also had a record-best IPL 2018, after ten seasons of playing the tournament. He scored 3 fifties and 455 runs at a staggering 75.83 average. Pick him for sure. Our overseas picks for CSK for today are Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, David Willey and DJ Bravo. Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the tournament with an injury and you can read our complete CSK team preview for IPL 2019 here.
Bangalore
From the overseas lot, Marcus Stoinis and Nathan Coulter-Nile will be missing in action, because of national duty in UAE, where Australia is playing 5 ODIs against Pakistan. There’s a high chance Shimron Hetmyer could get his IPL debut, while one of Colin de Grandhomme and Moeen Ali will play. We’re expecting Ali to have the edge, and he may even he bumped up to open the batting with Parthiv Patel. Tim Southee is almost a certain starter as well.
Yuzvendra Chahal and Umesh Yadav are Indian national team players and they will be highly popular picks for fantasy teams, but I’d suggest you pick other wicket-taking options. One could be Washington Sundar and another could be Shivam Dubey, both of whom can contribute with the bat as well.
